We are looking for a candidate to join our organizing team who is prepared to learn and use best practices and strategy to guide healthcare workers in advocating for themselves, their patients, their families, and our communities. As an ONA Limited Duration Organizer, you will learn to identify and develop leaders and support unorganized healthcare workers to form their union. This position is grant-funded and will be employed for a period of 12 months with a possibility of renewal.
The new LD Organizer will join our Director of Labor and Organizing, Organizing Lead, and three ONA Organizers. Our supportive and collaborative team is inclusive and representative of and committed to racial and LGBTQ+ equity.

LIMITED DURATION ORGANIZER ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work and Communicate Effectively with Prospective ONA Members
Enter a supportive environment in which you will learn and master the following skills:
• Hold one-on-one organizing conversations with unorganized healthcare workers. Visit workers in their homes, over zoom, or in public spaces
• Shadow an ONA Organizer during committee meetings and trainings
• Continually assess workers leaders via structure tests and one-on-ones conversations
• Hold trainings for workers to learn the steps to organizing their worksite and assessing their coworkers
• Communicate effectively and promptly with prospective members
• Map workplaces
• Obtain and create employee charts
• Input and manage notes in database
Collaborate, Coordinate and Support the ONA Organizing Department
• Be an active participant of the Organizing Team during our Team meetings and 1:1s.
• Work collaboratively with organizing team members and practice our Organizing Team agreements.
• Inform Director of Labor and Organizing and team Lead of activities, developments, and progress of organizing activity, including worker meetings.
• Maintain campaign data.
• Meet goals and deadlines.
• Attend conferences and trainings to improve current knowledge or develop new skill or knowledge.
• Backfill other staff when on leave or otherwise unavailable.
Participate in and Support ONA’s Organization-Wide Programs and Campaigns
• Participate in ONA’s Racial Equity and Inclusion work.
• Participate in political activities, such as, canvassing, phone banking and text banking.
• Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings ideally in-person or electronically when necessary.
• Maintain confidentiality of ONA strategic initiatives and targets.
• Participate in local labor activities and support other unions in the community.
• Other tasks as assigned.
• Smart phone with data plan.
• The ability to travel to work sites throughout the state.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Office Outlook
• The ability to learn about relevant labor law, the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, HIPAA, and Oregon’s Staffing Law.
• Any experience as a union organizer, community or political organizer, or labor union representative preferred.
• People with professional experience in the health care sector, including RNs, are encouraged to apply.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
• This is a full time, exempt position. Salary is $60,000 - $65,000, depending on experience.
