Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Health Physicist.

Under the direction of the Director of Radiation Safety the candidate shall assist our Medical Physicists in the implementation of our Medical Physics Program in Diagnostic Radiology and our Radioactive Materials Program under our Broad Scope Radioactive Materials Licenses. The position will involve testing of radiological imaging equipment, inspection of lead protective garments, performing radioactive material decontamination surveys of labs and patient rooms, handling and disposal of radioactive waste, calibration of radiation detection equipment and may also involve assisting medical staff during radiopharmaceutical therapies.

Job Responsibilities:
    • Supervised biennial, annual, semiannual and quarterly radiation safety/quality assurance testing of radiological imaging equipment such as:
      • radiographic
      • fluoroscopic
      • computed tomographic
      • magnetic resonance imaging
      • dental radiographic
      • primary diagnostic monitors
    • Annual inspection of lead protective garments
    • Participation in radiation protection surveys
    • Setup and decontamination of patient rooms used for radionuclide therapy
    • Performance of other Health Physics duties during radiopharmaceutical therapies
    • Calibration of survey meters
    • Radioactive waste management
    • Rapid response to incidents involving radioactive material contamination

Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:
  • Additional responsibilities as required by Director of Radiation Safety

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Physics or Applied Physics
  • 3 years of experience working in Health Physics or Medical Physics
  • Candidate must demonstrate a thorough understanding of the requirements of Article 175 of the New York City Health Code.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Limited permit in Medical Physics

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $76,721.83 - $99,259.11 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
