MissionSquare Retirement is looking to hire a results-driven Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) to identify, develop, and implement growth opportunities that promote improved financial wellness for public sector plans and participants. The CSO will be the primary resource for advancing MissionSquare Retirement's corporate strategy and must be able to drive growth, merger and acquisitions (M&A), and divestments and divestiture. The CSO will evaluate market forecast and long-term trends, collect competitive intelligence, drive cross-functional business processes, and maintain business model innovation, while simultaneously being able to synchronize strategies with corporate center plans.

Essential Functions for this role include:
  • Driving Strategic Development: Championing implementation of the corporate strategic plan for MissionSquare Retirement. This role will lead a team responsible for providing a robust external perspective for the business (and SWOT for MissionSquare), leadin g strategy development and key initiatives, gathering competitive intelligence, and translating this intelligence into actionable strategies. This role and team will collaborate across departments to ensure a holistic perspective and alignment around MissionSquare's strategic objectives.
    • Analyzing market dynamics, market share changes, product line performance, and competitive intelligence. Identifying key capital projects, joint ventures, potential M&A targets, and other strategic partnership opportunities.
    • Ensuring suitable metrics are in place to measure performance and progress.
    • Monitoring execution of business initiatives.
CSO leads the development on a 2 to 3-year cycle, ensure alignment, and address course correction as needed. Infuse a strategic perspective into MissionSquare Retirement and work across the company to increase the cohesion and alignment around our strategic direction, while identifying and managing risk.
  • Lead Strategic Initiatives: Through cross departmental collaboration, lead the development of strategy for significant initiatives, including entry into new markets, M&A, new products and retail opportunities, and departmental strategies.
  • Strategic Thought Partner: Partner with the executive team and leaders across MissionSquare to develop objectives on a longer horizon (3-5 year). Provide thought leadership on industry trends, both emerging and established, to ensure that MissionSquare is aligned to capitalize on those trends.
  • Lead Market and Industry Analysis: Frame and inform our strategy based on an evaluation of market conditions and industry trends. Conduct primary quantitative and qualitative market research; identify and analyze trends; conduct market sizing to quantify addressable markets for target products, services, and growth potential.
  • Competitive Intelligence and Analysis: Synthesize and analyze multiple internal and external data sources to drive competitive insights and intelligence; assess competitor market segmentation & positioning and monitor competitive trends to actively identify gaps to signal potential issues in the future; on-going Pricing Analysis & Insights; Benchmarking. Direct development and maintenance of competitive intelligence online tools and resources. Cultivate and leverage relationships with providers of industry research and intelligence to bring best in class thinking to MissionSquare.
    If you have the following skills, we encourage you to apply:
    • Advanced degree in business development with a minimum 10 years of experience in a senior management role, preferably in consulting and/or financial services industry, demonstrating strong skills in data analysis, interpreting competitive intelligence indicators, and requisite strategic development.
    • Strong presentation/communication skills. Ability to provide clarity on complex data/topics across various audiences
    • Advanced technical understanding of retirement business, products, services, legislation, and regulations
    • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to listen to and process different perspectives effectively balancing perspectives and relationships with decision making that best supports corporate strategy
    • Ability to balance decision making considering business opportunity/value and risk effectively
    • Adept at proactively identifying market trends, competitor behaviors and areas that support growth strategies
    • Highly organized/able to prioritize and manage multiple conflicting deadlines effectively
