Job Overview

The Division Director, Merchandise Execution ensures elevated standards and capabilities for consistent merchandise execution across their division. They drive improvements to the merchandise planning and execution processes for their division. As the subject matter expert of execution standards and merchandise strategies, the Division Director drives sales and customer experience with a focus on elevating execution through training, guiding, and collaborating with in-store leaders, specifically the Style Merchandise Execution Managers and Visual Managers. Additionally, they influence central, division, store, and vendor partners regarding division needs.

In their role, the Division Director directs consistent execution by being a knowledgeable and strategic business partner, identifying division and store opportunities while ensuring the successful implementation of all Company strategies.

What You Will Do
  • Guide merchandise flow in-store to eliminate confusion, considering store architecture limitations and product assortment allocation.
  • Align asset/capacity availability with assortment/inventory build by location.
  • Provide regular engagement/feedback from stores on VMDs/Execution guide needs. Align with existing asset availability and define by tier for assortment alignment with store execution potential.
  • Train and coach Merchandising Teams on merchandise execution. Build skills and knowledge through in-store development of key colleagues and leaders.
  • Observe and assess merchandise execution processes. Identify areas of opportunities and recommend solutions to the Store for corrective action.
  • Lead and participate in event execution. Work with Store Management to plan and execute events, performing post-event analysis.
  • Coach stores on strategy to execute and achieve pre-sell goals. Utilize available reporting to evaluate successes and opportunities.
  • Prepare for, participate in, and follow up on Deep Dive store visits.
  • Support Store leaders in being accountable for key business metrics: Regular price selling, Markdown/Last Act Execution, My Client, and Ambassador performance.
  • Understand our competition. Observe and evaluate competitive opportunities, communicating findings to Region and Division.
  • Leverage vendors to educate Store Teams and Sales Colleagues on product features, benefits, and selling techniques.
  • Support the onboarding of new store executives related to merchandising strategies.
  • Communicate clear, concise priorities, strategies, and direction to division stores, formally and informally, using approved communication channels.
  • Establish a consistent communication cadence with Regional Merchandise and Visual Senior Directors.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with vendors, communicating priorities and needs.
  • Possess very strong project, process, and organizational skills. Effectively juggle multiple projects and assignments at one time, delivering high-quality results.
  • Additional responsibilities include special projects related to national and regional merchandise execution communication, sales and event analysis, strategy development, project management and other specific project requests.

Merchandising Expertise: A deep understanding of merchandise planning and execution processes, with the ability to elevate standards and capabilities for consistent execution.

Leadership and Collaboration: Strong leadership skills to guide, train, and coach Merchandising Teams, as well as collaborate with in-store leaders, including Style Merchandise Execution Managers and Visual Managers.

Sales Focus: Drive sales through strategic planning and execution, emphasizing a focus on elevating execution standards.

Strategic Thinking: Be a knowledgeable and strategic business partner, identifying division and store opportunities and ensuring successful implementation of Company strategies.

Communication Skills: Clear and concise communication skills are crucial, both formal and informal, to convey priorities, strategies, and directions to division stores through various communication channels.

Analytical Skills: The ability to observe, assess, and analyze merchandise execution processes, identifying areas of opportunity and recommending effective solutions for corrective action.

Vendor Management: Develop collaborative relationships with vendors, effectively communicating priorities and needs.

Project Management: Very strong project, process, and organizational skills, enabling effective handling of multiple projects and assignments simultaneously to deliver high-quality results.

Adaptability: Flexibility to work within store architecture limitations, adapt to changing business needs, and stay informed about industry competition and opportunities.

Retail Knowledge: Possess a comprehensive understanding of the retail industry, including regular price selling, hours utilization, and client-focused metrics.

  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
