$22.715 - $34.947

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs various janitorial duties in cleaning and maintaining offices, washrooms, lunchrooms, and work areas.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains garages and related buildings and facilities in a clean, neat and orderly condition.
  • Picks up debris, sweeps, dusts, scrubs floors, wall, woodwork etc.
  • Washes windows, signs, tables, sinks, lavatories, toilets, etc.
  • Empties trash containers and removes trash to disposal locations.
  • Cleans and dusts office furniture and related items.
  • Operates floor cleaning machines and uses mops, pails, sponges, brushes, cleaning chemicals, window washing equipment, vacuum cleaners and related material and tools.
  • Removes ice and snow from stairways, walkways located in buildings and facilities.
  • Spreads sand and salt as required by weather conditions.
  • Observes, detects and reports non-operating or malfunctioning equipment and apparatus, defects in heating, plumbing, electrical and related systems and equipment.
  • Replenishes supplies from stockroom.
  • Drives Authority equipment and service van to transport supplies to various work sites, if necessary.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Must possess a valid State of Illinois Driver's license and be capable of operating a vehicle.
  • Must perform the physical activities associated with this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Extensive amount of stooping, bending, kneeling standing, walking and climbing ladders.
  • Lifts, carries and maneuvers materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Working knowledge of proper cleaning methods, techniques, materials and supplies relating to locations and surfaces to be cleaned.
  • Working knowledge of how to properly and safely use cleaning solvents, chemicals and machinery and their proper application in a variety of situations and conditions.
  • Ability to properly identify and report malfunctioning equipment, apparatus, heating and cooling systems, plumbing, electrical and related systems and apparatus.
  • Ability to write and express oneself in a clear, concise and comprehensive manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Usual office and field working conditions.
  • Works in areas in which fumes, dust and noise are present.
  • Subject to weather conditions when working outdoors.

  • Various cleaning materials and equipment.
