Description

The Director of Development is responsible for the strategic direction, management, and execution of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge's (HFHGBR) development program. This includes, but is not limited to fundraising, communications, and staff management of the Development department. The Development Director will work with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to develop, direct and execute quarterly, annual and long-range fundraising plans that will facilitate the growth and expansion of fundraising efforts to meet the financial needs and objectives of HFHGBR.

Responsibilities include the oversight and implementation of individual giving, corporate and foundation giving, grant writing, special events, marketing, and communications. Other duties not listed may apply.

Planning:
Create annual objectives to meet strategic plan goals
Provide regular data reports/updates that measure progress towards achieving objectives
Propose, update, and revise strategic goals if necessary
Ability to take initiative and make effective recommendations to staff and Board

Fundraising:
Develop, coordinate, and execute HFHGBR's fundraising program, including quarterly, annual and long-term fundraising plans
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospects with the capacity to make a financial commitment to support HFHGBR's mission
Plan and implement fundraising strategies including but not limited to: turning volunteers into donors, upgrading current donor relationships, and executing a successful annual fundraising event
Ensuring fundraising strategies promote a diverse and sustainable funding base for HFHGBR
Provide relevant and timely reports to CEO in fundraising data, goals and plans
Proactively plan fund development that corresponds with HFHGBR program growth
Serve as staff leader and liaison to a Development Committee and other ad hoc fundraising committees
Provide primary staff leadership and serve as a partner and resource to the CEO in relation to development activities and long-range planning for development

Grant Writing:
Oversee and assist with the grant writing efforts initiated by the Community Outreach Coordinator
Utilize resources available to seek new foundations and grant support
Ensure that all reports are submitted in a timely manner and grants are properly stewarded

Marketing and Communications:
Create and manage a marketing/communications strategy/plan for HFHGBR
Develop promotional material that reflects HFHGBR marketing strategy
Coordinate public outreach efforts including but not limited to: print and electronic newsletters, direct mail, press releases, free and paid advertising, brochures and social media
Coordinate media relations and promote the message of HFHGBR throughout the community
Serve as principal spokesperson alongside the CEO to the donor community
Ability to speak in front of small and large groups to bring the message of Habitat to the larger community

General Activities and Special Projects:
Assist the CEO in presenting fund development updates to the Board
Work with program and operations staff to develop fundraising strategies
Ensure effective management of employee performance and other employee matters in a timely manner
Other duties may be assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience:
College degree required
At least three to five years fundraising or sales experience - ideally in a non-profit and/or faith-based organization
Major donor experience with a proven track record of raising major gifts preferred
Planned giving experience preferred
Willingness to study, learn about and grow fundraising strategies and tactics
Keen understanding of marketing/communication strategies
Experience with CRM platforms to track and measure development activities
Knowledge of the Microsoft suite of products including but not limited to MS Word and Excel
Experience with design software products such as Adobe and Canva

Skills:
Versatility in juggling tasks, assignments and duties
Accomplished and proven staff supervisor with a consensus management style; able to attract, lead, and develop competent staff members
Shares HFHGBR's mission driven values, is community oriented, and comfortable working in the HFHGBR environment
Ability to work with volunteers, especially on the committee and board level
Exhibits excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to expertly problem solve and manage time wisely

Work Schedule:
Required to work 40 hours per week
Must be flexible to work extended hours including on weekends during accelerated build projects or for other community and fundraising events
