Description

Under the supervision of the Chief Development Officer, the Grant Writer provides leadership to the organization through project management of corporate, government, and foundation grants. They provide key oversight in database management and individual donor prospecting to drive revenue growth for the organization. They support the success of all programs at Habitat for Humanity of South Central New Jersey, by assessing strategic grant solicitation, data analysis for prospecting and moves management. This position ensures that all funding needs at our organization are met through funding cycles, fundraising campaigns and events, program growth. A successful candidate in this position will be able to cultivate a strong private foundation, federal, and corporate grant pipeline.

Grant and Project Management
Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs and financial needs of the organization.
Targeted grant research, planning and managing a master grants calendar, completing letters of intent, preparing grant proposals and formal grant applications, stewarding corporate and foundation relationships, and ensuring that grant compliance and reporting requirements are met.
Leading efforts for private and corporate foundation giving through research, relationship building, grant writing, and reporting.
Overseeing government grants research, writing, and reporting.
Identifying, cultivating, and securing new foundation donors, and stewarding existing foundation donors in the portfolio.
Work with internal teams to identify funding needs and to create budgets and compelling narratives to support successful grants.
Ensuring timely and effective grants management and compliance with requirements.
Tracking and meeting all deadlines on a comprehensive reporting calendar including all foundation and government grant funding opportunities
Meeting or exceeding specific annual revenue goals for foundation giving and government grants.
Maintain positive relationships with fund providers and other stakeholders.
Maintain records and submit reports related to grant
Work with other departments to ensure deadlines are being met.

Data Management
Create queries and exports to build segmented reports and communications, donor recognition lists and high-level reports.
Manage the integrity of the fundraising database, which includes verification of all data, analytics, and related reporting. Manage all ongoing maintenance, including managing permissions and data hygiene activities to enhance and sustain data integrity and health.

Other Duties:
Assist with the writing for marketing materials including newsletters, thank you letters, annual appeals, annual reports, and more.
Provide draft of speeches for senior leadership and board members.
Assist with writing press releases and other communications material.
Aid with Fundraising Events upon request of the Chief Development Officer

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience which should demonstrate a proven track record of securing new funding opportunities
Excellent research and communication skills--Proficiency in research, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data
Excellent knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising process
Be highly organized with the ability to implement systems and follow-up processes
Creative thinker with a strategic mindset and ability to see the big picture while leading the team to implement actionable plans in a timely manner.
Strong program management skills with an understanding of how to use data to build healthy and thriving donor pipelines across various fundraising programs.
Genuine display of high level self- and other-awareness.
Commitment to fostering a community-centric approach to storytelling and fundraising that respectfully translates Habitat's impact while inspiring donors to engage as equal partners in the work.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to bring structure to systems and processes.
Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements of the organization
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively and independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills and Abilities
3 to 5 years of experience as a successful grant writer
Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required
Previous grant budget development and management
A proven record of securing major grants with certifiable references
Knowledge of grant application process, scoring criteria and funding cycles
Previous federal grant application, submission, approval and management of funds
