Adelphia Gateway, a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources is seeking a Pipeline Operator to monitor and control the movement of natural gas through multiple segments of pipeline on a 24-hour basis from a centralized location in accordance with contractual requirements and consistent with system capabilities, operating characteristics and conditions. Monitors pipeline and facility integrity, and system pressures to maximize efficiency, safety and quality and ensures timely and accurate delivery. Participates in the planning, scheduling and implementation of facility operations, shutdowns and start-ups pursuant to PHMSA Control Room Management (CRM) 49 CFR Part 192 Transportation of Natural Gas by Pipeline.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Controls pumps and compressors remotely, analyzes changing conditions and alarms; adjusts to efficiently meet current and anticipated customer demands
  • Executes the daily operating plan to ensure daily scheduled receipts and deliveries are met within DOT and tariff standards, while optimizing compression and pump equipment usage and maintaining safe operations
  • Documents all relevant operational information daily during shifts
  • Communicates operating plan and briefing of system status as per shift change protocol guidelines; mitigates impact of planned and unplanned facility outages
  • Monitors flows, pressures and material qualities across the system and responds to SCADA system alarms, abnormal and emergency operating conditions; dispatches field personnel and takes necessary action to resolve condition
  • Monitors site security systems; documents and reports all alarms
  • Assists in managing imbalances with customers while delivering a high level of customer service in a non-discriminatory manner per FERC guidelines
  • Assists with the validation of SCADA, communications and electronic measurement systems utilizing various Control Room applications, methods and procedures
  • Manages and dispatches 811 One Call notifications; interfaces with schedulers, operations and third parties to maintain collaborative cross-functional relationships with office and field employees
  • Completes and maintains Operator Qualification training as required by Company, DOT and PHMSA regulations
  • Other duties including performing minor maintenance or inspections tasks as trained and assigned

Position Specifications:
• High school diploma/G.E.D. plus equivalent work experience with any of the following: natural gas gathering, gas transmission, or other transmission pipeline experiences or 4+ years of Military experience
• Associate degree plus 2 to 4 years of control board experience is preferred
• Control center experience in natural gas or liquids pipeline industry required, with a basic knowledge of pipeline operations, including station operations and pipeline hydraulics is preferred
• Familiarity with AVEVA Enterprise SCADA systems is preferred
• Understanding of standard PC applications, Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint and ability to navigate Internet sites; advanced knowledge and command of these applications is preferred
• Must be able to visually monitor several computer screens in a control room environment for twelve (12) hour shifts
• Valid driver's license
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, must effectively converse with other controllers, supervisors, schedulers, field operators and other industry contacts
• Must be dependable and flexible to accommodate unscheduled changes in work routine
• Must maintain a high level of mental alertness and be capable of quickly processing and reacting to incoming information from the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System
• Ability to complete Operator Qualification
• Must be able to perform under stressful situations and maintain multiple system operations
• Must be able to work a rotating shift schedule which includes holidays, weekends, nightshifts and overtime with minimal time away from the control console during shift
• Self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently with minimal oversight
• Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and plan daily work, strong attention to detail, procedures and protocols
• Requires strong problem-solving skills and possess the ability to adjust plans to meet changing system and operational conditions
• Ability to work well within a team and follow direction from supervisors
