Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Specialist, Speech Language Pathologist - Acute Inpatient Rehab.

In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for assisting with coordinating patient care staff and student mentoring performance improvement and/or research endeavors for a specialty program within the Speech Language Pathology Program

Job Responsibilities:
    • Assists in the oversight of daily operations of the unit as needed
    • In coordination with the management team demonstrates a leadership role in the development of chosen specialized area of clinical expertise nbsp;
    • Reviews medical chart to ascertain important medical information and clarifies orders if necessary
    • Selects appropriate SLP assessment and treatment tools and methods in order to accurately evaluate the patient s communication and or swallowing diagnoses as well as functional status Using findings from chart review evaluation and collateral for developing functional and individualized treatment plan Demonstrates effective clinical decision making and implements modifications to the SLP treatment plan when appropriate nbsp;
    • Implements treatment plans according to current professional and health system standards Establishes appropriate and achievable treatment goals with patient and family Selects appropriate technical aids/assistive devices and correctly refers patients to other clinical services to achieve stated patient and team goals nbsp;
    • Assesses educational needs of patient families and implements a variety of methods for patient/family education and training during rehabilitation process Treatment plans encompass comprehensive care based on best practice model in SLP
    • Completes all required documentation for patient care and reimbursement within prescribed timely manner as per department standards Completes all required documentation in medical chart as required by Department guidelines and regulatory requirements Accurately records all treatment provided daily in the electronic medical record nbsp;Documentation consistently meets compliance and departmental standards
    • Coordinates Speech Language Pathology patient care rendered in assigned area of specialized clinical expertise Education and training of staff in areas of expertise to further enhance the departments and other department s knowledge and skills Successfully completes evaluations and treatment protocols with accurate concise and thorough clinical documentation
    • Develops educational nbsp; tools which enhances quality and nbsp; scope of specialty care rendered to patients nbsp; Explores all modalities of learning tools to meet the needs of different learning styles nbsp; Develops resource material to be utilized by staff members patients residents nursing or other ancillary staff nbsp; i e suggests research articles create and maintain training in services patient education etc nbsp; nbsp;
    • Assists in the coordination of the student program and other clinical education programs i e Graduate students HCOP students Observers etc
    • Works in conjunction with staff and management for performance Improvement projects and clinical research projects that will benefit the unit and/or the department nbsp; Assists in the development of performance improvement initiatives Represent department at Performance Improvement Team meetings as needed nbsp; Assists with maintaining regulatory compliance and accreditations throughout the department with SLP management team members
    • Identifies new equipment that would facilitate programmatic growth and development Assists with equipment and unit maintenance nbsp;
    • Assists in management of patient s cases and responsibilities as they pertain to the Speech Pathology plan of care for any clients within the unit discharge planning coordination of services etc Works in collaboration with other unit team members as needed
    • nbsp;Represents the department at interdepartmental rounds and meetings as appropriate
    • Exhibits leadership in producing evidence based practices department research initiatives department and unit specific in services grant writing/professional publications/writings in specialty areas and new programs development in the field of speech and language pathology and swallowing nbsp;
    • Demonstrates initiative to specialty area of practice outside NYU Medical Center
    • Is able to successfully facilitate professional relationships with management team members including immediate supervisors as well as with staff members Provides feedback to management regarding staff s skill and behavior competency highlights from performance outlines strength and area of improvement
    • Maintains a professional appearance and demonstrates appropriate professionalism during job performance
    • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Master s degree in Speech Language Pathology NYS Speech Pathology license with valid current registration ASHA CCC s and a Member of the American Speech Language and Hearing Association in good standing Strong communication and interpersonal skills Minimum 5 years as a licensed SLP and demonstration of professional experience and expertise in the following categories pertaining to area of chosen specialty: Advanced study and continuing education Leadership Education teaching training and/or Mentorship student or clinical fellow mentorship in specialty area Research and publications.

Required Licenses: Speech Pathologist Lic-NYS, ASHA Cert

Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 8 years of clinical experience Membership in at least one professional organization group etc Demonstrates team leadership qualities

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $81,325.14 - $115,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
