Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Project Manager, Health Policy Specialist. We are seeking a highly qualified individual to join the PlayReadVIP National Center at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Our group, based in Manhattan, delivers and studies parenting programs, including PlayReadVIP, that utilize pediatric primary care to improve child development outcomes in under-resourced populations (led by PI Alan Mendelsohn, MD; videointeractionproject.org). Our multidisciplinary team of researches brings together experts from a wide range of fields, including pediatrics, developmental psychology, and education. We are currently working on plans to bring PlayReadVIP to scale with a focus on sustainability by building on state-level Medicaid policies and initiatives to support reimbursement for service delivery.

This candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to identifying, researching, and operationalizing sustainable funding mechanisms for PlayReadVIP service delivery (e.g. Medicaid reimbursement pathways, value-based payment initiatives, public funding streams, and more). This position is currently funded for 2 years, with a goal of longer-term renewal.

Job Responsibilities:

Project Management
  • Communicating closely with and scheduling/leading meetings with team members, stakeholders, sites, policy makers, hospitals, and healthcare representatives (e.g. Medicaid Managed Plans).
  • Managing project timelines and progress towards goals, developing and setting agendas and tasks to move forward towards those goals.
  • Performing administrative/regulatory tasks, including development of/management/adherence to contracts, grants, budget, and spending, as well as reporting to funders and stakeholders.


Project Tasks
  • Researching and documenting current policies related to healthcare reimbursement, Medicaid coverage, value-based payment, and other approaches.
  • Researching best practices and approaches within the field of early childhood programming.
  • Developing best practices toolkits and recommendations for current PlayReadVIP locations.
  • Coordinating closely with healthcare expert consultants, engaging in interviewing and outreach with content experts, participating in meetings and workgroups.
  • Identifying and engaging in opportunities for advocacy within healthcare policy redesign.
  • Communicating findings and recommendations through written, verbal, and visual outputs (written reports, slide decks, white papers, etc.).
  • Working directly with sites, staff, and health system leadership to implement recommendations and operationalize billing opportunities.


Additional Tasks
  • Supporting other projects as needed.
  • Supervising staff and/or volunteers and training staff and volunteers.
  • Other administrative tasks as needed.


Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a BA in health policy, psychology, public health, public policy, healthcare administration, pediatrics, medicine, or related field. 2+ years previous research and management experience preferred. Exceptionally strong independent writing, organization, research, and communication skills.

This position is based in NYC at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. A mixture of in-person work in NYC and hybrid work is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

MA, MPH, or PhD very strongly preferred. 4+ years previous experience in healthcare or health systems, with experience and/or strong understanding of billing/reimbursement systems, medical billing, healthcare redesign, pediatric healthcare policies, Medicaid policies, and/or state/federal reimbursement policies preferred. Previous experience engaging with policy makers, stakeholders, or agencies related to reimbursement policies. Clear interest in child health, pediatrics, public health, or healthcare systems.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $67,771.14 - $88,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
