Job Overview The Staff Software Engineer at Macy's Technology identifies and drives architectural and platform engineering enhancements in line with guiding a long-term technical vision, and is responsible for implementing that vision through enterprise-wide projects by collaborating with development and business teams. Staff Software Engineers develop, promote and govern architecture principles and strategies, software engineering best practices, champion NFRs, improve the development ecosystem, and are ultimately responsible for the delivery of transformational initiatives. They identify and drive architectural changes to accelerate feature development or improve the quality of service (or both). They have deep and broad engineering skills and are capable of standing up an architecture in its whole on their own, but choose to influence a wider team by acting as a "force multiplier". They work closely with Technical Leads, Architects, other Software Engineers and Management in a highly collaborative environment. Staff Software Engineers mentor other engineers in the group to be successful in their jobs. What You Will Do
Skills You Will Need JavaScript: In-depth understanding of JavaScript, Node.js, and mastery of one or more JavaScript frameworks (Vue, Angular, React). Web Performance: Extensive experience optimizing web performance, including Core Web Vitals, Node server CPU and memory utilization, etc. UI Architecture: Ability to provide expert guidance on UI architectural direction for various applications, including UI rendering methods (CSR/SSR/SSG/etc), caching layers, and overall system design. Tooling: Experience selecting and deeply customizing the tooling ecosystem used by software engineers including CLIs, build tools, linting, check gates, etc. Architecture Knowledge: In-depth understanding of event-driven architecture (EDA), service-oriented architecture (SOA), and microservices architecture. CI/CD and DevOps: Understanding of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), DevOps processes and tools, and Containerization. Application Flow Understanding: Broad comprehension of application flow and technical architectures. Effective Communication: Ability to effectively share technical information and communicate technical issues and solutions to stakeholders at all levels of the business. Project Management: Capability to handle multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and effectively communicate timelines to team members. Ownership Mentality: Desire and ability to take ownership of products/projects. Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to identify primary and secondary project objectives and prioritize tasks accordingly. Who You Are
