Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Supervisor-Blood Bank.

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for complying with the NYUHC mission statement and provide safe and timely transfusion for all NYUHC patients by carrying out NYUHC transfusion technology processes according to established standards contained in the Blood Bank Quality Assurance Plan and Self Assessment BBQAPSA program.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Blood Bank Quality Assurance Plan Self Assessment BBQAPSA including the ten BB organizational standards known as Quality System Essentials based on the current AABB standards
  • Schedules work assignments and monitors personnel nbsp;Performs competency assessment and evaluation of personnel
  • Supervises and reviews the work of assigned personnel engaged in the pre analytical analytical and/or post analytical phases of testing nbsp; Oversee send out samples to reference labs for special testing nbsp; Performs technical review of testing antibody identification workups and transfusion reaction reports
  • Reviews daily QC proficiency testing outstanding test log Rhogam report exception report and ADT name change report
  • Inventory Management: Maintains adequate inventory of blood and blood components consistently adhering to FIFO system where dictated by SOP nbsp; Demonstrates competency in ordering blood products in BloodHub or from other suppliers nbsp;Works to guarantee timely arrival of blood and blood components consistent with principles of safe and efficient blood inventory management Runs daily inventory reports to review and record disposition of units and physically reconcile units
  • Participates in all internal and external assessments as required by the department Participates as required in corrective action plans preventive action planning and quality monitoring activities
  • Understands the importance of systems based error reporting and uses Occurrence Report Form ORF as intended to contribute patient and donor safety in a non punitive environment focused on process improvement nbsp; nbsp;Knows records retention requirements for WellSky Transfusion patient inventory donorrecords nbsp; Consistently retrieves necessary and sufficient available data from all computer systems and subsystems consistent with security access including HIS and BB LIS Familiar with computer down records documents policies and forms
  • Serves as clinical liaison with clinical and nursing staff providing care to Inpatient and Outpatient services ED and Off Campus sites
  • Provides backup supervisory coverage to LOH BB during absence of onsite supervisor and on weekends
  • Maintain professional currency in the field of immunohematology and blood banking by attending programs that provide a minimum of twelve CEU per year
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist
  • B.S. in Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or Physical Sciences from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 6 years experience as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in an advanced full service blood bank.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiar with WellSky Transfusion computer system
  • Epic and Microsoft Office experience
  • Work experience in a large volume hospital
  • Professional certification as BB ASCP or SBB ASCP

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $148,400 - $162,180 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
