Primary Purpose
Serves as the Clinical Engineering department's subject matter expert for all CE/IT integrated technologies. Provides technical support and expertise for the Clinical Engineering supported clinical device systems which have dependencies on the IT supported and managed networks, applications, and infrastructure.
Minimum Specifications
Education:
- Must have bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, or closely related technical discipline.
Experience:
- Must have at least 2 years of experience functioning in either a Biomedical/Clinical Engineering or Information Technology technical support role that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively meet the technical requirements of the position.
Equivalent Education and/or Experience:
- May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and the experience requirements.
Certification/Registration/Licensure:
- COMPTIA Network + Certification required within 12 months of hire date.
- Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) or comparable Healthcare Technology Management certification preferred.
- Prefer certification as a Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) or possess a similar industry recognized certification.
- Additional Information Technology related certifications preferred.

- Deep working knowledge of the functional concepts and the variety of technologies involved in implementing and supporting IT integrated biomedical and diagnostic imaging devices and systems.
- Skills and abilities related to implementation of network configurations of devices in a complex network environment.
- Cisco wireless networking experience preferred.
- Cisco ISE experience preferred.
- Security/Firewall appliance experience preferred.
- In depth understanding of networking, routing, and routed protocols.
- Skills and abilities related to providing device integration technical support and expertise in a large healthcare IT operations environment.
- Skills and abilities related to maintaining Microsoft Windows operating system images, packaging software for deployment and enterprise-wide management end user devices using centralized management utilities.
- Must have an in-depth technical knowledge and demonstrated experience of Microsoft Windows operating systems, Active Directory and Group Policy management or IOS and Android.
- Must have knowledge of information security principles, practices and technologies related to a clinical device environment.
- Must have experience in system architecture design, recommending & implementing change, and communicating recommendations to senior leaders.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with department personnel, user departments, and managers with regard to business needs and technical advancements.
- Must be able to prepare specifications and architecture/design documentation for complex clinical equipment network designs.
- Must have a collaborative work style that includes and values the views of others in recommendations and decisions.
- Serves as the subject matter expert for technical issues with regard to clinical device network compatibility and interface issues.
- Works directly with vendors to troubleshoot and make recommendations to management and IT resources as needed.
- Formulates, plans, and executes integrated clinical device implementation projects. Identifies, investigates, and advises on emerging technologies and products, and assess their suitability of use within the overall CE/IT strategy.
- Consults with end users and IT experts to identify inefficiencies in system platforms and workflows. Proposes methods to improve the end user experience, plans and executes changes accordingly.
- Assists in the preparation, maintenance and monitoring of the organization¿s disaster recovery and business continuity plans with regard to end user computing platforms.
- Produces high level oral and written plans, presenting complex technical matters in clear terms tailored to specific audiences.
- Proactively monitors and identifies systemic issues and resource constraints in end user computing platforms and works to remediate to ensure uptime and efficient operation.
- Stays abreast of new developments and the latest trends in end user computing platforms by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, and actively participating in professional organizations. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
- Must be able to develop system specifications and decision flows, in the form of flow charts or equivalent techniques, from written business requirements.
- Must be able to accept verbal and/or written problems or direction from senior staff and business users and demonstrate an ability to prepare specifications that reflect provided information. - Must demonstrate an understanding of patient data and the use of this data in a healthcare environment, as applicable.
- Must demonstrate the ability to develop system configuration/modifications from detailed specifications.
- Must be able to develop detailed operational documentation based on both existing and newly configured systems.
- Must be able to demonstrate critical thinking skills, with regard to system issues.
- May be subject to temporary reassignments to other managers, supervisors, teams and/or projects based upon the needs or priorities of the department.
- Ability to multi-task and work on urgent tasks to meet immediate needs of the business and reduce risk by taking proactive measures.
- Installing, configuring and maintaining firmware updates, operating system security patches and vulnerability remediation, in support of business requirements.
- Conducting complex hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
- Implementing operating system enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the system.
- Must be willing to work in an on-call situation.
Responsibilities:
- In conjunction with Clinical Engineering personnel and leadership, clinical stakeholders, Information Technology, and Information Security, assists with onboarding, performs installation, troubleshooting, documentation, configuration, of hardware, software and networks related to CE supported integrated medical device technologies.
- Participates in the installation/onboarding/implementation of IT integrated medical devices and systems.
- Installs, monitors, troubleshoots, documents, configures, and tests hardware, software, and networks used for integration of medical devices with EMR's.
- Documents current state of the medical device inventory process relating to networked equipment and identifies opportunities for standardization.
- Identifies and addresses root cause of issues to effectively restore communication between medical devices/systems and their network-based dependencies.
- Develops, utilizes, and enhances the service request and change management standards and processes as it relates to clinical device integration.
- Maintains and develops current processes relating to compliance and associated documentation within the organization. This includes but is not limited to collecting MDS2, facilitating the on boarding process as outlined by the hospital and collecting information from the device manufacturers.
- Documents current and future workflows relating to medical device integrations and operation.
- Provides training as needed to CE staff on device integration fundamentals.
- Works with all impacted stakeholders to recommend configuration standards for hardening new medical devices to achieve higher reliability systems.
- Assists in the completion and continued management of all clinical device integration project plan deliverables.
- Expresses ideas clearly and in a professional manner both orally and in writing
- Demonstrates cooperative interaction with co-workers and other hospital employees, works collaboratively with other departments to achieve patient care goals.

- Assists in the facilitation of enterprise-wide collaboration with appropriate teams not limited to Clinical Engineering, Facilities, IT, Vendors, and EMR analysts to support medical devices.
