SALARY $82,896.40 POSITION SUMMARY Contributes to overall Planning activities that provide senior management with decision support in service allocation and initiatives to improve rider experience. Develops survey research tools and methods to obtain customer input and synthesizes data to develop recommendations that can guide planning decisions to reflect the customer perspective. Encourages ridership growth by maintaining customer focus in CTA's short- and long-term planning initiatives. Assists other internal departments on market research planning initiatives.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES - Conducts diverse types of quantitative research: research designs, coordinates data collection, and interprets results relative to secondary data and transportation research to make actionable recommendations.
- Coordinates outside consulting services: create scopes of work and evaluation criteria; develops and evaluates proposals; and, oversees consultants and the preparation of deliverables.
- Conducts qualitative research, including focus groups and executive interviews, synthesizes results, integrates findings into results of other research and develops concise reports.
- Provides assistance to higher level management and other internal departments on market research initiatives; participates on committees and presents reports as appropriate.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting to this position are the following jobs: Job Title None CHALLENGES - Ability to juggle multiple projects that are very different in nature.
- Often asked to work within tight timeframes.
- Working with a variety of clients that require a varying level of assistance.
- Must work collaboratively across multiple CTA departments to advance Planning Department initiatives.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS - Bachelor's degree in Market Research, Marketing, Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related discipline, or in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Public Administration or Business Administration with a focus on survey and evaluation methods with two (2) years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to this position.
- Master's degree in related field preferred.
- Previous experience with conducting analyses using SPSS or other statistical packages e.g., Python, SQL, R, Excel.
- Previous experience with online survey platforms and email marketing tools.
- Previous experience with effective design and delivery of presentations, comfortable with presenting to and working with higher level management.
- Experience with transit/transportation/travel behavior research preferred.
- Some college or graduate level education related to transportation and/or urban planning preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Requires sitting for extended periods of time, standing, visual acumen, manual dexterity, and fingering for working with computer keyboards.
- Service Area Requirement: Exempt (Non-Union) employees must live within the boundaries of the CTA Statutory Service Area either at the time of employment or within 6 months of beginning employment at CTA.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Ability to develop a conceptual understanding of transit planning fundamentals
- General knowledge of industry resources for innovative market research and survey design techniques
- Strong analytic and quantitative skills
- Ability to synthesize data to develop actionable recommendations
- Strong oral and written communication skills,
- Ability to write reports meaningful to the client/stakeholder
- Ability to work within a short time frame to meet priority and ad hoc requests
- Ability to exercise good judgement
WORKING CONDITIONS - General office environment
- May be required to travel to various field locations
- Subject to various weather conditions when traveling to and from work locations
- Subject to normal garage/shop conditions such as noise, dust, grease, moving vehicles, etc. when visiting field locations.
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS UTILIZED - Personal computer and associated software.
Additional Details
Employees and/or union members will be given priority consideration in the hiring process, per the applicable labor contracts.
Final salary will be determined in part by the qualifications of the selected candidate and may be higher or lower than target.
