Under General supervision, perform cancer genomic laboratory procedures leading to the formation of an accurate clinical reports using the International System for Cytogenomic Nomenclature. Works under the direction of senior techs and Leadership. Uses discretion and judgment in carrying out procedures

Responsibilities

  • Perform benchwork, analysis, and reporting of genetic or genomic assays consistently with a moderate level of accuracy and efficiency
  • Maintain lab areas and equipment including QC and validation documentation
  • Contribute to an environment of safety and focus on quality
  • Perform pre-director review of straightforward reports in areas of competency

Perform as assigned:
  • Assist with the validation and implementation of new or improved processes
  • Assist members of lab management to improve operations, investigate and implement new technologies, streamline workflow strategies, organize, and evaluate QC/QM record
  • Assist with orientation and training of lab staff
  • Contribute to the continuing education of staff either through directly presenting material or investigating other resources

Qualifications

Required:
  • BA/BS in related scientific field.
  • Typically, at least one year experience in a Cytogenetics/genomics lab OR completion of a formal certified training program in Cytogenetics/genomics
  • Certification as CG(ASCP)CM or MB(ASCP)CM or international equivalent with on-going documentation of CE comparable to ASCP programs
  • Basic knowledge of CAP guidelines
  • Basic knowledge of Cytogenetics or Cancer Genomics and related diagnostic testing
  • Basic Troubleshooting Skills
  • Good Attention to Detail
  • Solid Communication Skills
  • Solid Computer Skills
  • Sound Judgment
  • Work with limited supervision with routine tasks
  • Display personal responsibility and ownership for work
  • Demonstrate a mindset open to improvements and change
  • Must be able to differentiate between colors and pass a standardized color vision screen to perform this role

Routine weekend shifts required

The hourly pay range for this position is from $39.83 to $59.73 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
