The financial counselor provides counseling and advocacy for uninsured, underinsured, and private pay patients. This position supports a corporate strategy to ensure long-term sustainability through stewardship of human, physical and financial resources.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient financial needs, assists with enrollment in state, federal, and health benefit insurance plans as situation dictates.
  • Reviews state and federal health care service benefit programs and program qualifications with patients.
  • Communicates and summarizes healthcare benefit information when needed.
  • Assists patients with financial assistance applications.
  • Completes financial assistance application processing in a timely and complete manner.
  • Stresses customer service and positive interpersonal relations while working closely with Intake, Registration and others.
  • Ability to work effectively with other employees, patients and external parties.
  • Provides procedure and treatment estimates and collects pre service deposits for private pay patients. Monitors accounts for ongoing treatment deposits, refunds, and reconciliation.
  • Provides patient access services; registering new patients, entering pertinent patient data and account information, ensuring data is current and accurate.
  • Providing support to patients by answering questions regarding billing ,insurance and claims status.
  • Assist clinical and revenue cycle departments with training for financial assistances and EPIC registration updates.
  • Providing patients with information about their insurance plan coverage, including deductible amounts and out-of-pocket expenses.

Qualifications

Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one years experience in financial counseling or patient accounting or patient access, or a combination, in a healthcare setting.
  • Minimum of one year experience working with state and federal programs - Medicaid, Medicare, Health Benefit Exchange plans.
  • Knowledge of related State and Federal programs.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner.
  • Ability to effectively use email and word processing applications.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and commitment to detail.
  • Priority setting skills.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $26.48 to $37.70 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
