Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Messenger Transporter.

In this role, the successful transporter/runner provides patient transportation services via bed stretcher or wheelchair to all areas within the Medical Center.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Greets patient in a polite manner and is kind to all patients. Assists in the transferring of patients from their beds onto stretchers or wheelchairs and vice versa. Assists patients who may be ambulatory to the area that they are being taken. Walks along the side of the patient when escorting ambulatory patients. Verifies patient identification to ensure that correct patient is being transported. Pushes stretchers and wheelchairs at a pace that is safe for the patient and others. Confirms ticket to ride is available and complete. Secures patient and any accompanying equipment appropriate for transport. Transports all patients to the exact destination on a timely basis as instructed by the Dispatcher. Notifies person's receiving the patient of his/her arrival.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates reliability by maintaining a good attendance/punctuality record. Adheres to departmental guidelines regarding use of and proper notification in connection with time off. Adheres to Employee Health requirements for an annual health assessment including TB screening and proof of all required immunizations. Maintains a professional appearance; wears identification badge at all times while at the Medical Center.
  • Notifies the Dispatcher in the event that there are any problems when picking up or delivering a patient. Utilizes the Patient Tracking Software/program via beeper and telephone system. Utilizes delay codes appropriately. Verifies location to which patient must be transported and necessary medical equipment which must accompany the patient. Performs Sixty Second Safety Inspection and cleans transportation equipment prior to using stretchers or wheelchairs. Denotes on their log sheet that this process has been completed for each transport. Ensures each patient has identification band and ticket to ride prior to performing any transport.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be able to speak, read, understand and follow simple directions in English. Some motor dexterity is required. Good interpersonal skills are necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED or experience in related field.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $45,154.25 - $49,142.82 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
