    Job Description

    PURPOSE ANDSCOPE:

    The Executive Director, Accounting and Controller oversees the College's accounting and financial reporting operations. The position holds direct management authority and accountability to execute policies and operational initiatives for a department, group of departments, or functional areas throughout the College. The position provides leadership and oversight of financial reporting, accounting principles, College policies and federal and state regulations for the accounting and grants accounting teams. The position is responsible for working with multiple departments to implement changes to ensure compliance with accounting principles and governmental standards. This position reports directly to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor (SAVC) of Financial Reporting & Operations.

    ESSENTIAL JOBFUNCTIONS:
  • Under general direction of the SAVC, provides strategic vision and operational leadership for the accounting and grants accounting teams, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations
  • Serves as the College expert in Governmental Accounting Standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Provides insights and recommendations to the SAVC and CFO on accounting matters that can help in decision making
  • Ensures compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards and reporting requirements by overseeing the implementation of new governmental and accounting standards
  • Directly manages cross-departmental relationships and communicates regularly with management regarding major business and technical risks. Responsible for developing strategies to mitigate these risks and implement internal controls
  • Under general direction of the SAVC, oversees and coordinates the preparation of the College's financial reports. Ensures reports are prepared timely and accurately
  • Performs technical accounting research of complex financial issues to ensure the College's proper accounting treatment and compliance of financial transactions, recognition of revenue and expenses, accruals, financial reporting, and maintenance of the College's chart of accounts
  • Manages and/or oversees multiple accounting-related submodules within PeopleSoft, including but not limited to the General Ledger, AR Billing, Fixed Assets, and Project Costing. This includes configuration, security, access, testing, routine changes to related tables, etc.
  • Directs and manages external audits and reviews; coordinates with external auditors and department managers to communicate requests and ensure required data is provided for audits
  • Actively participate in and/or leads various LSC meetings, committees, training sessions, conferences, and PeopleSoft user groups
  • Identifies and drives process improvement initiatives; ensure that LSC's return on investment is maximized
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

  • PHYSICALABILITIES:

    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

    WORK SCHEDULE ANDCONDITIONS:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

  • REQUIREDQUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field
  • Experience must include at least 3 years in a management level position

  • PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field
  • Experience in governmental accounting
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience using financial management systems (e.g. PeopleSoft)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
  • Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO)


  • Salary

    Hiring salary range is $111,072 to $127,733.

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
