Under the supervision of the Client Services Manager and in accordance with Company policies, procedures, and guidelines. In this role, you will:
- Leads the daily activities of Client Services (CS) to ensure quality services are rendered in an efficient and timely manner
- Provides immediate response to internal and external client's technical questions and issues
- Understands all the essential job duties of a medical technologist and is able to evaluate results, theory & quality control as well as assume direct supervisory duties over personnel and all resources within the client services and/or specific section.
- Assists or resolves client issues in a timely manner by performing a thorough investigation of issue, and evaluating findings Assists in resolving discrepancies in reports by consulting with technical and managerial staff
- Understands specimen requirements as it pertains to lab testing in order to provide accurate results. Ability to understand differences in specimen types
- Is responsible for client notifications of STATs and criticals
- Assists in tracking and monitoring send out tests
- Assists in problem resolution for future applicability and forwards to appropriate quality assurance individual (supervisor, manager, pathologist, etc)
- Maintains professional/technical knowledge through continuing education
- Pursues referenced test results to satisfy client needs and requests
- Consults with Company leadership and/or pathologists or pathologist when no preset criteria for decision-making is available before taking action
- Understands the collection of specimens with rigid attention to proper patient identification, priority status and hospital and laboratory safety and infection control policies for clinical testing
- Ensures appropriate supplies are always on hand in their assigned area or department
- Trains or instructs laboratory personnel in performance of client service protocol and procedures where assigned
- Participates in developmental work on new protocol
- Participates and collects, evaluates, and reports quality management data in order to monitor and improve laboratory understanding applicable to Laboratory and client services
- Attends and participates in continuing education programs to monitor proficiency, expand current knowledge and enhance professional excellence. Willingly shares knowledge and provides clinical orientation to other members of the staff
- Oversees job competency/skills check program
- Maintains open communication with supervisors, pathologists and fellow employees to ensure optimal operation of department.
- Communicates pertinent information to other members of the health care team in a clinically relevant time frame to enhance CS's contribution to patient care
- Maintains strict confidentiality in all situations and with all documentation
- Maintains and assists with continual compliance as required by standards of accrediting or regulatory agencies
- Coordinates and schedules the activities of assigned personnel to optimize productivity and minimize unbudgeted hours. Provides direction and makes decisions concerning CS situations
- Maintains consistent service and productivity in an unpredictable workload environment
- Monitors personnel performance and documents performance through periodic appraisals as directed by company guidelines
- Establishes procedures and maintains a laboratory department or unit under the direction of the client service manager in compliance with accreditation and other regulatory standards
- May perform the most difficult and advanced tasks
- Establishes and writes laboratory procedures, using computer software, for method validation as required
- Adheres to safety, confidentiality, compliance, and legal requirements
- Must have reliable and consistent attendance and comply with company guidelines on attendance
- Assists in after hour calls from Client Service Lab Assistants when needing guidance.
- Uses judgement to seek guidance from Superior or Pathologist
- Performs other duties as assigned
All you need is:
- Bachelor degree in medical technology or related science from an accredited program
- Current certification or registration as a Medical Technologist such as ASCP, NCA, HEW or equivalent
- Valid and current State of Hawaii license as a Medical Technologist
- Minimum four (4) years clinical laboratory experience in a hospital/commercial lab setting. The COO, or designee, may use discretion in assignment of supervisory position to an individual with less than 4 years of experience.
- The COO, or designee, may also use discretion in assignment of supervisory position to a Medical Laboratory Technician with 5 or more years of laboratory and/or Client Service experience.
- Strong computer skills (Word and Excel) and knowledge in lab information systems is required
- Successfully pass Company Pre-Employment drug test and periodic and random thereafter
