The Medium Voltage Electrical Design Engineer will support the development, testing and implementation of microgrid control solutions around solar photovoltaic, battery energy storage solutions, diesel/natural gas generators and other distributed energy resources (DER's) utilizing HON's Experion controller, Human Machine Interfaces (HMI's), multi-function protection relays, and concentrators from major OEM's. This is a remote position with 25% travel. Candidate can be located anywhere in the US and must be a US citizen.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop Medium Voltage concepts and solutions involving preliminary electrical one-lines, design proposals, specifications, product selection, drawings, calculations, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost implications, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications
  • Provide design solutions to meet customer and site requirements, ensuring the customer's best interests are protected during the project. The engineer must handle various types of projects, including tendering support, customer execution projects, R&D projects, and quality support services
  • Utilize SKM PowerTools or other modeling software to simulate the dynamic changes within an electrical power network system including fault calculations, arc flash hazards, transient stability, harmonics, grounding, and reliability
  • Support efforts to optimize distributed energy generation systems design, output, basis of design, physical site layout and site access
  • Understand microgrid concepts, including islanding operation, grid-connected operation, energy management, control strategies, and power flow management within a microgrid system
  • Create, submit, and coordinate interconnection requests with the local utility for distributed energy projects and analyze study results
  • Follow customers specifications and internal specifications for project implementation
  • Select components and create bill of materials
  • Prepare submittal documentation for projects and meet with customers to discuss project requirements and review submittals
  • Provide sketches, mark-ups, and direction to Electrical Designers to develop project drawings
  • Prepare customer submittals, Sequence of Operation, and test procedures
  • Assist with factory testing and field start-ups as required
  • Troubleshoot systems that are not functioning properly
  • Provide technical support to the proposals team

COMPENSATION

The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Connecticut, and Hawaii is $107k - $150k. For Washington and most major metropolitan areas in New York & California, the annual base salary range is $107k - $150k. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.

This position is incentive plan eligible.

YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in power distribution controls applications
  • Understanding of Microgrid operations and DER's (PV, BESS, and Generators)
  • Knowledge of Power Monitoring and Control Systems and associated protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC-61850)
  • Experience with generator/multi-source paralleling controls
  • Electrical PE License

WE VALUE
  • Familiarity with microgrid control solutions around solar photovoltaic, battery energy storage solutions, diesel/natural gas generators and other distributed energy resources (DER's)
  • Familiarity of microgrid control systems and automation technologies, such as supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, energy management systems (EMS), Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), HMIs, Remote Terminal Units (RTUs)
