Carpenter II is an experienced carpenter who will be in a floating position within a range of different settings-- from existing Habitat homes, known as "recycles/buybacks", to home warranty service requests on newly occupied homes. This role includes duties such as assessing repairs, taking measurements, sourcing materials, installing materials, general handy-person work, repairing existing construction on homes within warranty or within the Habitat recycle-buyback program, and projects at our Habitat facilities. Carpenter II covers a variety of different responsibilities and duties, including framing walls, caulking, installing blocking, repairing siding, installing trim, hanging cabinets, installing doors and hardware, repairing floor squeaks, adjusting doors or windows, minor drywall touch up and painting. Responsibilities: Assess and oversee repairs from warranty service request items submitted by Habitat homeowners and at the direction of warranty supervisor. Occasionally assists in the completion of punch lists on current Habitat job sites. Basic building performance inspections. (Not licensed home inspections). Using a Habitat owned and insured vehicle, drive to existing Habitat homes and active construction sites. All tools and equipment will be provided. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience: Minimum of 3 years carpentry experience in residential construction, or equivalent construction experience. Ability to competently and safely use common power and hand tools required for tasks. This includes saws, drills, measuring tape, laser level, nail gun compression, etc. Demonstrated ability to operate a motor vehicle competently and safely, and to provide a valid driver's license upon hire. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of residential building components and how they integrate to each other to include building envelopes, siding, roofing, flashing, framing, insulation, drywall, and interior finishes such as cabinetry, trim, and hardware. Specific carpentry skills in interior and exterior trim, framing, siding, installing doors and windows. Basic understanding of how plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems work including fixtures, plugs, switches, and breaker panel. Ability to perform basic building inspections and identify what has failed or is missing on a building component. Identify trade partners responsible for or reason for failures. Prompt, polite, and accurate communication with homeowners, teammates, and outside trade partners. Calm, kind, patient demeanor, and willingness to listen. This position will work directly with our homebuyers inside their homes, it is imperative that this role understands and supports Habitat values and mission. This role will require working with people from diverse cultures, customs and backgrounds. Ability to use laptop or tablet to view and update data in multiple apps. Ability to take direction and follow existing processes and procedures. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience: Any qualifying combination of education, certification, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Drywall patching and painting skills. Ability to work in project management software tools such as Smartsheet or Procore. Knowledge of high-performance building complements and systems. Understanding of CCB requirements for General Contractors, and/or a current or former GC license. Ability to conduct business communications effectively in spoken and written English. Work Environment and Physical Demands: This job is located at various assigned work locations or construction sites in the Portland Metro area Position is very active and requires climbing ladders as well as considerable standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching in awkward and tiring positions during varying weather conditions. Employee must frequently team lift, move, and/or load items over 50 pounds. Schedule 40 hours a week, currently Mon-Fri, 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Occasional weekends or after-hours work may be required for emergencies. Starting Wage Expectations: Minimum to $22.84/hour to range midpoint of $27.82/hour. Placement will generally not exceed the midpoint based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. The full salary range is $22.84/hour to $33.11/hour.
