The Cohn lab, within the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, is recruiting a Research Technician I-II whose main focus will be HIV cure research projects. The candidate will work directly with the Principal Investigator and other lab members to perform and analyze experiments using primary human samples to investigate HIV persistence.

Responsibilities

  • Nucleic acid isolation from plasma, PBMCs, and tissue samples
  • Analysis of HIV sequence by PCR and next-generation sequencing
  • Sequencing library preparation (Illumina and PacBio)
  • Tissue culture of primary human cells
  • Multi-parameter flow cytometry-based analysis of human samples
  • Collect, analyze, interpret, and report on experimental results
  • Maintain thorough and detailed experimental records
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Research Technician I:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Immunology, Virology, Molecular Biology, or similar, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated scientific knowledge in the area of study
  • Demonstrated basic laboratory skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Independent research experience separate from school lab experience

Research Technician II:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Immunology, Virology, Molecular Biology, or similar, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 years of experience working in a lab outside of school coursework

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Competency in basic tissue culture, molecular biology techniques such as PCR, qPCR and gel electrophoresis, and a familiarity with current understanding of HIV
  • The candidate must be detail oriented, well-organized, self-motivated, and able to efficiently manage time and experiments
  • Strong communication skills
  • Prior experience in cell subset isolation from peripheral blood
  • Prior experience in multi-parametric flow-cytometric phenotyping of human samples, particularly FACS sorting and analysis using FlowJo
  • Prior experience in computational analysis using R/Python/equivalent, or willingness to learn
  • Familiarity with biosafety 2 and 2/3 laboratory practices and bloodborne pathogen preventions
  • Being comfortable working with rare and important primary human biologic specimens

Research Technician I: The hourly pay range for this position is from $22.87 to $32.56 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Research Technician II: The hourly pay range for this position is from $26.48 to $37.70 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
