    Job Description

    PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

    The Manager, Orientation and First Year Experience, develops and manages programs designed to facilitate the successful transition of new students into the Lone Star College community, particularly through transition programs such as New Student Orientation, Advisement and Registration, orientation for special student populations and continued first-year experience student retention efforts. The Manager, Orientation and First Year Experience develops and implements activities and services which orient new students to Lone Star College, supervises the operations of welcome center locations, recruits, selects, and trains student leader staff, and enforces institutional policy related to orientation and first year experience.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Develops and manages Orientation and FYE programs aimed at enhancing the academic and social integration of a variety of diverse population of first-year students. Implement initiatives that promote student engagement, learning, and personal development
  • Manages campus welcome and assistance center locations. Develops professional development materials for staff and manages employee assigned duties and schedules
  • Creates and foster an overall welcoming experience that expresses campus pride and a sense of belonging for diverse community that may include new students, continuing students, parents, families, community partners, and guests
  • Works closely with Academic Advisors, Instructional leaders, Counselors, Tutors, Student Life, etc., to support first year experience activities that encourage retention and persistence of students. This includes targeting diverse student populations and programs, at-risk populations and low-persistence student groups within the first year, facilitating student workshops, effective communication via, phone, email, and utilization of virtual services
  • Collaborates with campus stakeholders to identify strategies and provide recommendations to improve the effectiveness of programming
  • Under the management of the Dean of Student Access and Director of Admissions and Records, creates and facilitates new student orientation and parent programs in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students. Facilitates an orientation committee that includes a variety of areas and divisions
  • Oversees case management strategies in coordination with a variety of campus departments and leadership to ensure coordinated support for first-year students, focusing on individualized interventions that promote retention and success
  • Collect, track, and analyze data to assess the impact and effectiveness of orientation and FYE efforts. Use data insights to inform program improvements and report outcomes to college leadership and stakeholders
  • Hire, train, and supervise professional staff, support staff, and student workers involved in new student programs, orientation and Welcome desk. Provide leadership and professional development opportunities to build a strong team focused on student success
  • Under the direction of the Director of Admissions and Records, monitors and reviews program budget and inventory, organizes small-and-large scale events, conducts facility reservations, and travels to satellite campuses for events and program updates
  • Utilizes new technologies and media platforms to create detailed program/marketing information to communicate effectively with prospective first time in college students to help assist in reviewing admissions data, documents, holds, and guided steps to prepare students for campus visits
  • Updates the campus website and data collection tools related to program evaluation and assessment
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

  • PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards


  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    Salary

    Hiring salary range is $54,528-$62,707

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
