    Job Description

    PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

    The Specialist IV, Graduation is responsible for overseeing programs that support the daily operations of students and staff engaged in Graduation responsibilities. This position assists students with the entire graduation process, which includes responsibilities ranging from transcript evaluation, assisting with residency status, and reverse graduation. The position is very customer service and student focused, and acts as a point of contact for issues related to graduation.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Provides administrative support to the department, including but not limited to composing correspondence from verbal direction or from knowledge of the organization, retrieves, compiles, and disseminates a variety of reports, correspondence, agendas, or management information in support of department
  • Provides new and prospective students with information about graduation requirements, assesses student's progress, and assists students with completion of program
  • Assists students with backdating records, reinstatements of status, and reverse graduation
  • Assists students with residency status as needed and appropriate
  • Assists with graduation ceremonies and coordinating all pre-graduation activities and events; attends events and acts as a resource for student questions
  • Collects graduation data for campuses, analyzes student records for graduation purposes, processes graduation status for students, sustains database for graduation, and conducts necessary processes for the commencement ceremonies
  • Analyzes student records and information to determine students' level of completion based on the various individual program plans; evaluates transcripts to make determinations on completion
  • Provides oversight of program for departmental and system-wide service and projects requiring analysis, review, implementation, maintenance, and development
  • Maintains and conducts correspondence with students, advisors, department chairs, deans, directors, key staff members, professors, and VP's of Instruction to properly evaluate student records for completion purposes
  • Provides a high level of advice to students in terms of explaining the degree/program types and options that LSC offers as well as disseminating information to students about all of the services that are available
  • Creates and conducts workshops and trainings for students and staff members communicating with students and advisors on unsuccessful program completions and analyzes additional strategies to promote future increase in the level of completion rate
  • Creates, organizes, and maintains appropriate records needed for LSC to stay in compliance with local, state, and national authorities regarding completion rates
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

  • PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED and at least 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience


  • Salary

    Hiring salary range is $36,057- $41,466

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
