The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is a six-time award-winning, nationally recognized agency and recipient of the National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Parks and Recreation Management, serving the Maryland region adjacent to the Nation's Capital.

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George's County's Public Affairs and Community Engagement Division (PACE) is seeking a Visual Media Specialist. The PACE Division focuses on promoting park and recreation programs, encourages participation and involvement, and informs residents of available services through various forms of communication media. The Visual Media Specialist reports to the Graphic Design and Visual Media Supervisor within the Graphic Design and Visual Media Unit of Public Affairs and Community Engagement.

The Visual Media Specialist is responsible for capturing the programs and activities offered by the Department of Parks and Recreation in still photography and videography. This role combines creativity, technical proficiency, and an understanding of communications and marketing to capture and produce engaging and impactful content. The Visual Media Specialist collaborates with cross-functional teams including communications, marketing, graphics design and web to ensure the Department is well represented through images and visual media.

Examples of Important Duties

  • Collaborates with team members to plan for, produce, and/or direct media that advances the Department's mission while adhering to visual identity and branding styles and guidelines.
  • Produces, films, and edits video footage for various storytelling, enrollment marketing/advertising, and fundraising and stewardship needs for different areas of the Department, while also assisting with logistical coordination, and interviewing.
  • Photographs various events for a wide variety of marketing and communications applications, including print and digital assets.
  • Coordinates with outside video production companies and freelancers for special projects as needed and manages the footage selection and review processes for project needs.
  • Manages and schedules third-party photography providers for specific photography needs.
  • Manages the YouTube channel, including videos and playlists.
  • Organizes & maintains storage for all digital & video assets.
  • Creates photo galleries and slideshows for website, social media, and other digital needs.
  • Maintains camera and video equipment and accessories and stays on top of the latest editing software technology through various professional development opportunities.


  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Multimedia Production, Communication, Digital Imaging, Photography or any related field.
  • Two (2) years' experience in visual media and imaging production or commercial photography, or multimedia production.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years.
  • Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position.
  • Pass Commission medical examination.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
    In addition to the minimum qualifications the ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Excellent photography and videography skills.
  • Proven experience as a Web Content Specialist or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing engaging images.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail, creativity, and a keen eye for aesthetics.
  • Experience in marketing and communications field a plus.
  • Experience with Photoshelter and ASANA a plus.

    Eligibility
    You have 45 days from your hire date to elect your benefits. Your coverage begins on the first of the month following receipt of your enrollment forms and required documentation.
