The Medical Head, Breast Cancer is a member of the US Breast Cancer Franchise and leads a team of medical professionals. The medical head is knowledgeable about the actions of regulatory bodies, particularly the FDA, and has experience in clinical trial design and conduct. You should have significant experience in oncology and thrive on proactively engaging internal and external leaders, and have a network of Oncology KOLs. As a member of the Global Medical Team (GMT), you will represent the US on the GMT for life cycle management and other externally sponsored research. You will provide strategic direction, drive prioritizations, ensure tactical execution follows standards, and guide the team so they can deliver promptly and with high quality. You will support your team members' professional development; oversee the team's budget and partner with their counterparts in the cross-functional and Global teams.

Accountabilities
  • Be accountable for the disease area medical strategy and oversee the creation of the medical plan for several indications
  • Oversee the delivery of all U.S.-based evidence activities, including Clinical Trials, Real World Evidence Studies, Investigator-Initiated, and AZ-Sponsored Research, and Publications
  • Accountable for ensuring delivery of appropriate budget and resource requirements to support all medical affairs activities
  • Lead and develop direct reports (Medical Directors and Medical Leads)
  • Build a highly collaborative team with clear accountabilities
  • Ensure compliance with all AZ corporate policies
  • Lead the delivery of a comprehensive engagement plan with customers and key partners, e.g., Managed Care Organizations, KOLs, Hospital Systems, Professional Societies, and cooperative groups
  • Partner and Collaborate with commercial and development teams in the labeling negotiations for product approval
  • Lead the Launching of new products/indication
  • The Medical Head sits on the GMT and has a role to inform the GMT, and also work with the franchise head, to identify critical issues for the brand within indication or that may affect the overall franchise.


Essential Skills/Experience
  • Advanced scientific/medical degree; MD, Ph.D., PharmD, or equivalent
  • 7+ years Oncology therapeutic area experience (academic research, clinical or pharma/biotech setting)
  • 4+ years experience in a strategy-setting role
  • Extensive experience of Medical Affairs function within a pharmaceutical industry
  • Extensive experience in relationship and stakeholder management (3P's: Payer, Provider, and Patients)
  • Effective matrix leadership experience
  • Experience working in US market
  • Documented track record of strong leadership and mentoring skills
  • Proven teamwork and collaboration skills


Desirable Skills/Experience
  • Formal training in oncology/Breast Cancer/clinical research
  • Experience developing and/or launching a new pharmaceutical product
  • Experience in managing medical affairs teams
  • Broad cross-functional pharmaceutical and cross-functional general management experience
  • Strong scientific background; knowledge and experience in oncology, tumor biology, and cancer research
  • Global experience within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Working knowledge of FDA requirements
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally. Travel will average 20-30% of the time

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $245,281 to $367,921 Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
