Duties

This position will allow you to use your expertise in managing and overseeing various programs which have an agency-wide and government-wide impact. Apply for this exciting opportunity to direct programs that strengthen the Department's ability to perform homeland security. This position starts at a salary of $163,964.00 (GS-15, Step 1) to $191,900.00 (GS-15, Step 10).

Typical duties include:
  • Managing and directing all operations and facilities related to programs, policies, and new and continuing initiatives of Office of Field Operations with operational functions that are worldwide
  • Reviewing staff and Program Office operations and determining correctness and applicability of proposed actions
  • Advising EAC/senior leadership on relevant CBP matters (e.g., plans, initiatives, issues, futures, and policies)
  • Coordinating with Agency staff and with elected officials on major and sensitive issues. As a matter of routine, represents and speaks for Office of Field Operations in meetings and deliberations with these agencies
  • Establishing overall Office of Field Operations managerial and administrative objectives, develops long-range plans and identifies required resources in order to promote an efficient, economical, and progressive organization

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as:
  • Directing various components of Office of Field Operations and oversees the production of a wide variety of programs and services
  • Providing efficient and timely coordination of major staff actions and events
  • Advising EAC or senior leadership on relevant CBP matters (e.g., plans, initiatives, issues, futures, and policies.)
  • Reviewing staff proposals for evaluation and performance management and modifies as necessary
  • Managing and directing all operations and facilities related to programs, policies, and new and continuing initiatives of Office of Field Operations with operational functions that are worldwide

You must:
  • Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
  • Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 12/20/2024.

  • Working as a contractor, intern, consultant or volunteer supporting the U.S. government
Probationary Period: All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.

Additional information

Supervisory Probationary Period: You may be required to serve an 18 month probationary period upon appointment.

Leadership Training: All newly appointed GS-15s are required to complete mandatory training. The training will be scheduled by the Office of Training and Development within the first 90 days of appointment. The duration of the training will include 5 weeks of in residence training in Harpers Ferry, WV. Note: This training may be waived if previously completed.
