    LSC consists of eight colleges, seven centers, eight Workforce Centers of Excellence and Lone Star Corporate College.

    Job Description

    PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

    The Manager of Advising oversees staff and/or specific program(s) involved in implementing specific activities or processes. Strategically plans, implements, and manages advising program initiatives as assigned by leadership. Functions include, but are not limited to, a case management advising model, VA Services, transfer services, International/ESOL Services, pre-enrollment sessions, advisor training programs, and assessments. The Manager oversees daily operations and provides guidance and solutions for issues that need to be addressed for advisors, front desk staff, other department employees and students.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Supervise full-time and part-time Advising staff; Provides strategic direction, guidance, and professional development opportunities for continued success and growth
  • Ensure business process documentation is created, and conduct training sessions for staff as needed
  • Ensure daily operations run smoothly and align with defined goals and processes
  • Provide guidance and solutions for issues that require escalation
  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of programs through surveys and other assessments; Seek opportunities to improve services as needed
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports detailing Advising activities and their effectiveness and impact on student success; Identify ways to improve/enhance current programs
  • Develop and conduct assessments designed to gauge the effectiveness of Advising/case management initiatives
  • Advise students on proper courses selection for all credit degree programs, credit and non-credit certificates programs, TSI regulations, course requisites, and associated with University Center and other colleges or universities
  • Actively participate as a department representative on various committees, meetings, and workshops
  • Work with local school district on advising early college, dual credit, tech prep students or potential prospective student
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

  • PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as classrooms, offices, meeting and training rooms, and libraries, College-owned vehicles. This requires use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience must include at least 3 years of experience in academic advising


  • Salary

    Hiring salary range is: $54,528 - $62,707.

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
