We are currently seeking multi-faceted, highly motivated individuals to fill the role of Senior Parks/Facilities Maintenance Worker at Green Farm Management Area. The Green Farm Management Area contains 42 parks including an urban park, 25 athletic fields, 2 cricket fields, 30 tennis courts, 20 basketball courts, 3 park activity buildings, 13 shelters, 2 equestrian centers, 27 miles of natural surface trail, 3 volleyball courts, 2 handball courts, 2 community gardens. The area is also responsible for the inspection, repair, and surface maintenance of 115 playgrounds. Under the supervision of a Parks/Facilities Maintenance Leader, this role performs park and maintenance work involving considerable responsibility, complexity, and variety. The successful candidate will support various park maintenance programs and perform a variety of general park maintenance tasks such as equipment operation, routine ground maintenance, playground repairs, trash removal, local athletic field renovation and maintenance, trail maintenance, and tree planting, pruning, and aftercare by working with other team members. The ideal candidate should possess skills to operate light automotive and motorized power equipment; trucks, tractors with attachments, large riding mowers, loaders, forklifts and apply chemical pesticides. Position requires working days, nights, and weekends.

- Operate riding mowers and tractors with attachments to mow parks, ballfields, and brush.
- Operate trucks, non-CDL truck and trailer combinations, non-CDL trash trucks, front-end loader, backhoe, skid steer, non-CDL dump trucks with snowplows and heavy equipment removing snow, grading fields and other park areas.
- Haul materials and equipment.
- Perform routine safety inspection and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Occasionally perform routine custodial maintenance and repairs to park buildings and structures.
- Maintain athletic fields including lay out of fields (measure, plot and square corners, plot yard lines, and mark lines) and aerate, overseed, and fertilize turf areas.
- Install amenities such as signs, grills, picnic tables, fence (chain link and split rail), basketball rims and nets.
- Perform tree maintenance duties. Operates chain saws. Operate chipping machine to grind brush into mulch.
- Operate stump grinder to remove tree stumps.
- Assist with transporting supplies and setting up special events.
- Provide general assistance to park visitors and assist with programs and events.
- Ability to communicate in another language a plus.
- Performs stormwater facilities preventive maintenance according to the Department of Environment Protection standards.
- Maintain bioretention and rain garden facilities with balanced vegetation free of weeds.
Important Skills and Characteristics:
- Knowledge of work procedures, steps and standard tasks and techniques for routine (1) grounds maintenance and trails maintenance; (2) landscaping; (3) basic building maintenance and custodial work processes; (4) safety procedures; (5) cleaning agents, procedures, and equipment; (6) pesticides and fertilizers and their applications; and (7) Commission organization, policies and procedures*.
*Knowledge is typically acquired or fully developed by on-the-job training in this job class.
- Skill and ability to (1) operate hand and power tools, chainsaws, and power saws, woodchippers, push and riding mowers, small tractors with attachments, small trucks or vans with small trailers; (2) operate various computerized software programs; (3) provide courteous service; and (4) perform First Aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED).
- Skill in problem solving to select, organize and logically process relevant information (verbal, numerical or abstract) to solve a problem.
- Skill in communication to understand verbal and written information (including facts, descriptions and ideas) and to express such information so that others will understand. Examples include reading and understanding labels; and reading and writing routine reports and correspondence.
- Interpersonal skills to interact effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of a team.
Working Conditions:
- Incumbent primarily works outside with a combination of office work occasionally or as assigned.
- Exposure to various elements and all types of weather conditions, waste, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects (e.g.: bees, hornets, wasps etc.).
- Work requires constant kneeling, bending, twisting, lifting, and the ability to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds and regularly up to 50 pounds.
- An essential employee required to be on-call 24 hours for any emergencies.
- Must be available to work weekends and evenings as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
Pass Commission medical examination.18 years of age.Two (2) years of experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance, semi-skilled trade work (HVACR, plumbing, painting, masonry, electrical, carpentry). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total two (2) years.Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position.
