Responsibilities

The Epidemiology Program in the Public Health Sciences Division at Fred Hutch invites applications for a Program Assistant who will work with Dr. Chris Li and his team in support of two large cancer research studies. This is an entry-level position as part of the Cancer Epidemiology Research Cooperative.

Fred Hutch serves as the coordinating center for the TRANCE consortium, a Department of Defense funded study of breast cancer. The successful applicant will be involved in the coordination of meetings, biospecimen and data management, and administrative support in the TRANCE consortium. The study is led locally by Dr. Li in close collaboration with other Fred Hutch investigators as well as investigators from the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah and Washington University in St. Louis, MO.

In addition, this position supports a long-term study of colorectal cancer called ColoCare.

Under the direction of the study manager, the Program Assistant will assist in coordinating meetings, specimen shipments between sites, and conducting daily operational work to ensure that the overall research project goals of each study are met. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team are critical to this position.

The Program Assistant may be asked to perform some (or all) of the job duties listed below:
  • Provide support for multiple epidemiologic research studies
  • Assist with biospecimen management
    • Coordinate and track shipments of biospecimens between consortium sites
    • Prepare and maintain box and freezer maps for biospecimens
    • Data entry of samples
    • Coordinate with shared resources to locate and obtain samples, and perform quality control
    • Work with data management staff to run queries for specimen pulls
    • Coordinate specimen transfers to shared resources for dna extraction and genomic assays
    • Update specimen protocols and SOPs
  • Study SharePoint site management
  • Data entry, organization, and maintenance for studies
  • Perform data entry quality control checks
  • Order study supplies, track incoming and outgoing materials, prepare shipments, and complete inventory
  • Assist with consortium member travel reimbursements and study participant compensation
  • Schedule meetings with consortium members and collaborators and write and distribute meeting notes
  • Carry out special projects and perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Program Assistant II:
  • High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of two years experience in a related field.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • High level of motivation and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask across multiple projects
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate computer skills with proficiency in a variety of software packages. Word, Excel, database programs, MS Outlook
  • Team player and has ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to handle competing priorities and multitask to achieve deadlines

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BA/BS in a related field of study
  • Interest in epidemiology, cancer, and/or environmental health is preferred
  • Experience working in an academic or scientific research environment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Program Assistant III:
  • BA/BS in a related field of study or equivalent experience. Minimum of three years experience in a related field.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • High level of motivation and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask across multiple projects
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate computer skills with proficiency in a variety of software packages. Word, Excel, database programs, MS Outlook
  • Team player and has ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to handle competing priorities and multitask to achieve deadlines

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Interest in epidemiology, cancer, and/or environmental health is preferred
  • Experience working in an academic or scientific research environment

Program Assistant II: The hourly pay range for this position is from $25.22 to $35.90 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Program Assistant III: The hourly pay range for this position is from $26.48 to $37.70 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
