Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Genetic Counselor. This position will be responsible for all aspects of the clinical research study in which we are actively recruiting study subjects as well as manage phenotype and genotype data from other genetics projects in the Molecular Science Core Keating Lab within the Department of Surgery The position will interface directly with patients/subjects and the Principal Investigator in support of the clinical genetics research studies; undertake protocol development for future genetic/genomic studies; undertake patient recruitment/ascertainment process enrollment and study coordination; serve as liaison with internal and external collaborators and funding agencies; and ensure the faithful execution of research protocols in accordance with Good Clinical Practices HIPAA by balancing the obligations to patient/subject Principal Investigator research team and sponsor s Job Responsibilities: Research Responsibilities Human Subjects Research As applicable submits and updates necessary documents required by the NYU Institutional Board IRB NYU Office of Clinical Trials and any other appropriate parties in order to obtain approval to conduct human subjects research Secures accurate signatures and forwards documents and/or forms to appropriate destination Might prepare and submit monthly enrollment statistics to the Office of Clinical Trials and provide other information in timely manner as necessary Provides genetic counseling for patients and their families who have or are at risk of having genetic disorders Effectively counsel patients and their families Interviews patients and their families to assess medical condition and provide individual and group counseling services Effectively provides individual and group counseling to patients and their families Utilizing proper interview techniques effectively interviews patients and their families Properly assess medical conditions as necessary Recruitment & Research Activities Respond to in person e mail and phone inquiries from research patients research investigators and health care providers regarding Dr Brendan Keatings genetics program The needs are to explain the research study obtain informed consent and medical/ surgical/ pathological information in a confidential manner and coordinate collection of blood and tissue samples Maintain and update database and files organizing this information Study Regulations Maintains awareness of federal/state/local study regulatory status and keeps an up to date copy of regulatory documents Assists with the informed consent process and ensure that the patient/subject fully understands what is required of them throughout the study Obtains and documents informed consent Follows through regularly with the patient/subjects and reminds them of visits and compliance Clinical Competency may require competency in performing handling storing and shipping of blood saliva or other tissue and DNA specimens Ability to determine appropriate genetic and immunologic testing for clinical and research indications with careful sample logging In house training and certification will be provided Other trainings and competencies may be included as required Participate in educational activities including training of medical students resident fellows and genetic counselors Provides guidance training and leadership to less experienced staff and trainees May have input into staff evaluations Additional Position Specific Responsibilities: Project Management Responsibilities Database and Biospecimen Transfer Management Oversight Oversee creation and SOP management of several large big data databases REDCaps LabVantage Big Purple Hadoop biospecimen/biorepository tracking systems and entry for all studies ensuring accurate and timely input as well as organized and clean data/specimen quality Oversee shipping and delivery logistics coordination contracts etc for the secure and safe shipping and transfer of large biospecimens as well as their safe storage in accordance with developed guidelines and established SOPs Lead and coordinate the complex transfer of database files and data points between multiple institutions technicians and biostatisticians upon request and for interim analysis under the guidance regulatory compliance and contracted language Ensure contractual and protocol compliance: standard steps regarding safety and security as well as integrity of data/biospecimens are adhered and required documentation consistently followed in the time frame specified Review and audit data entered by study personnel Administration Analysis Reporting and Compliance Prepare and submit of reports annual progress financial safety etc to regulatory agencies federal & state oversight organizations data & safety monitoring boards and study sponsors Create and maintain study records within all portals of Research Navigator My Studies IRB CRMS My Agreements etc and Regulatory Binders Prepare submissions as necessary Assist in protocol development & grant writing as needed Establish and follow Standard Operating Procedures to ensure adherence to trial protocols and administrative requirements Ensure study team personnel adherence to Good Clinical Practice and compliance with NYUSoM and external regulatory agencies Oversee Quality Assurance activities Facilitate agreements in collaboration with SPA as necessary Consulting Data Sharing Biospecimen transfer etc Expense Management and Finance Control Ensure accuracy and timeliness of study consultant and vendor payments as well as study subject reimbursement and compensation payments Maintain and manage petty cash accounts as necessary Oversee study materials and supplies & monitoring quantities Initiates ordering or new supplies with reference to study budgets when necessary Work directly with the PI Department administrator and sponsors to ensure open and accurate communication regarding the study funds Ability to read and comprehend sponsors budget Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Masters Degree in genetic counseling from an accredited program Board certification or eligibility for board certification as a genetic counselor by the American Board of Genetic Counseling ABGC Ability to interface effectively with patients/research subjects all levels of management and be able to work and communicate effectively with both internal and external collaborators Ability to identify analyze and solve problems; ability to work well under pressure Strong understanding and knowledge base of clinical/research studies Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently Ability to work and make decisions independently Time management skills and ability to multi task Proficiency in using various Microsoft Office applications such as Word Excel Access Power Point and Outlook and databases Familiar with Internet applications Effective oral written communication interpersonal skills. Required Licenses: Certified Genetic Counselor Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $67,771.14 - $96,629.60 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
