JOB SUMMARY
Crystal seeks a full-time exempt (1.0 FTE, 12-month) Director of Student Wellness. The Director of Student Wellness (DoSW) plays a pivotal leadership role in fostering the social-emotional development and well-being of students across both Middle and Upper Schools. The DoSW is directly responsible for Crystal’s comprehensive vision of student wellness across grades 6-12 and for developing programs and interventions that enhance student resilience. In consultation with leaders on both campuses, the DoSW influences strategic decisions related to student experience and well-being, ensuring that mental health considerations are integrated into the school’s overall approach. The DoSW works closely with faculty, staff, and parents/guardians to enhance their understanding of adolescent development, equipping them to better support students' needs. In their work with students, the DoSW provides counseling and guidance, helping them navigate typical developmental challenges and referring them to external mental health services as necessary. By working at every constituency level, the DoSW is a powerful advocate for student wellness, leading efforts to create a safe and nurturing environment where all students can thrive.

Strategic Leadership
Lead the development and implementation of a strategic 6-12 vision and plan for student mental health and wellness within the school community, in alignment with broader strategic priorities including Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Analyze data and trends related to student mental health to inform decision-making and strategic planning. Present vision, findings, and annual updates to the Senior Leadership Team and when appropriate, the Board of Trustees, the parent/guardian community, and the Professional Adult Community (PAC). Advocate for resources and support systems that promote a healthy school climate and student well-being. Collaborate with school leadership to integrate mental health initiatives into broader school policies and practices. Foster partnerships with external organizations to enhance mental health programming and support. Upper School Counseling and Support Services
Provide provisional counseling services to students seeking voluntary support. Meet with students as needed to navigate social-emotional challenges. Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify student needs and develop intervention plans. Provide follow-up support (case management) to students and their families. Offer outside counseling and mental health referrals based on family needs or counselor evaluations. Consult with outside clinical and medical support personnel for on-campus support, with family approval. Coordinate mental health crisis intervention, including assessment and clinical support for students and families in crisis (e.g., 5150 situations, mandated reporting). Lead coordinated school response to community wellness crises. Collaboration and Consultation
Supervise the Associate Director of Student Wellness to ensure 6-12 alignment. Serve as a consultant to faculty, staff, and administrators regarding individual and school-wide student issues. Collaborate with the US Student Support Team to address students of concern and streamline support efforts. Work closely with the Directors of Academic Support on both campuses to coordinate case management for students receiving academic accommodations. Meet regularly with the Division Heads and other divisional leadership teams to report on trends and respond to student needs. Participate in 6-12 leadership team meetings as directed to provide insights on adolescent development and mental health. Work closely with the Directors of Student Equity and Engagement on student wellness strategy and program, including advisory. Education and Outreach
Educate the community on topics pertaining to adolescent social-emotional development and mental health. Assist in evaluating the Wellness curriculum for students, PAC, and parents and may support its implementation. Plan and deliver parent education events in collaboration with school leadership and the Associate Director of Student Wellness. Plan and implement outreach programs for mental health awareness (e.g., Mental Health Awareness Week, LGBTQ+ Awareness). Resource Development and Management
Develop and provide educational materials for students and parents/guardians to enhance understanding of mental health issues (e.g., handouts, worksheets). Maintain and update the Mental Health Resource page on MyCrystal in collaboration with the Associate Director of Student Wellness. Maintain an up-to-date listing of community resources and support services for referrals. Build relationships with community resources and external services to address student needs. Program Development and Oversight
Develop and manage a comprehensive 6-12 counseling program aligned with the school’s mission. Establish and uphold counseling policies, procedures, and best practices. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and services, staying informed on current trends. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the Associate Director of Student Wellness. Professionalism and Ethics
Maintain a high level of professionalism as a school leader and practitioner. Uphold legal and ethical obligations, particularly regarding confidentiality and reporting. Participate in relevant conferences and workshops to enhance professional development. Maintain contact with other school counselors in the region to share best practices and resources. Foster an inclusive working and school environment, upholding the school’s Core Values. Travel Required

Required education and experience
Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, School Psychology or substantially related field Licensed as Psy.D., Ph.D., MFT or LCSW to practice in the State of California Knowledge of laws, regulations and ethical guidelines relating to delivery of mental health services in the school setting (by training, study, or experience) Independent school experience preferred Physical demands and work environment

Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time exempt, (40 hours/week), benefits-eligible, 12-month administrative staff position, and the annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $110,000 - $150,000.
The recruitment period will remain open until sufficient resumes have been received and may close at any time a sufficient pool of highly qualified candidates has been established. First consideration will be given to individuals that apply between December 20, 2024 through January 10, 2025. Second consideration will be given to individuals that apply between January 11, 2025 through January 24, 2025. The ideal start date for this position is July 1, 2025.
