The Temporary Part-Time Interpreter and Translator will be responsible for translating materials and providing interpretation services to facilitate communication between the City of Bloomington, local nonprofit organizations, and the public. The position involves both written translation and in-person or remote interpretation, with a focus on providing high-quality services in English and Spanish. Additional duties include supporting department programs and events as needed. This job description is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all job functions performed. The following are essential duties for this position, performed with or without reasonable accommodation: Essential (primary) Translate documents and materials between English and Spanish for City departments, local nonprofits, and members of the public as required. Provide in-person and remote (phone) interpretation services at City Hall and other locations, ensuring clear communication between clients, City staff, community members, and partners. Assist with departmental programs, events, and initiatives as needed. Ensure a safe and organized work environment, adhering to City policies and safety standards. Perform other related duties as assigned.A bachelor's degree in Spanish and/or equivalent knowledge and experience. A minimum of one year of experience in volunteer experience and/or community engagement. Proven experience in creating and translating written materials from English to Spanish and vice versa. Demonstrates the ability to provide accurate simultaneous interpretation between English and Spanish, both orally and written. Required to be proficient in drafting, editing, and proofreading documents in Spanish. Ability to utilize office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.The position will be performed in a standard office environment, with no unusual physical demands or environmental conditions. Incumbent is required to have sensitivity and awareness of community issues related to inclusion and belonging, particularly in regard to immigrant communities. | |
