Job Overview

The Macy's Marketing team is seeking an accomplished Director to lead the transformation of how we measure the effectiveness of our media campaigns. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience across different models of measurement and attribution, leveraging industry insights to take performance to the next level. This leader will be skilled at building both internal and external models, well versed in creative solutions that drive results, and a team member that others can learn from and collaborate with.

The Media Measurement team empowers the Macy's organization with analytical insights and solutions to support media planning, tactical media channel execution, and optimization of the effectiveness of Macy's media. The Director role leads the team, supporting all internal marketing and media teams with all backend execution and analyses of information for Audiences, Media Modeling and Attribution. The Director acts as a liaison between Media and the internal/external partners respective of measurement. The role requires a high degree of strategic and analytical ability to develop actionable insights to improve our customer engagement, our marketing strategies and financial results.

Essential Functions

Responsible for the strategy and execution of all media measurement systems including attribution, media modeling and audience connections
  • Lead relationships with external partners responsible for media measurement, while working closely with stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate data and deliverables
  • Analyze Marketing mix strategies with recommendations for use in future planning of events
  • Answer complex business questions by applying structured problem solving and performing technical analyses
  • Define analytical business problems, create innovative approach, and lead project execution
  • Work closely with cross functional teams to draw insights from data and analysis, including finance, strategy, media channel leads, and people both within and without the marketing organization
  • Analyze event expenses and ROI - identify unproductive spend and make recommendations based upon findings
  • Manage the preparation/compilation of materials for weekly/monthly/quarterly business review meetings
  • Lead and prepare materials for weekly leadership meetings, weekly updates, and other major presentations
  • Identify business trends and shifts, and recommend data-driven responses and recommendations to the organization
  • Consistently apply a Macy's Inc. omni-channel lens to analysis and insights, but have the ability to dive into specific business use cases
  • Conduct research on and provide insight into industry / competitive marketing trends
  • Manage the creation and maintenance of various sales databases
Team Management
  • Guide, develop and support team of marketing specialists.
  • Establish clear objectives and framework to achieve across each team member.
  • Recognize and develop talent.
  • Foster and inspire a culture of innovation, collaboration, intense curiosity and a drive to "be the best."
  • Balance work and deliverable demands (reactive) with a focus on proactive analysis.
  • Provide the team with a clear sense of objective, ownership and accountability and a solid understanding of how what they do fits into the broader strategy of Macy's
Qualifications and Competencies
  • B.S. or M.B.A (preferred) with technical background in Marketing, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or Economics.
  • 5-8 years' experience in the analysis of Marketing Programs (retail industry experience preferred), including media mix modeling and attribution; familiarity with CDPs, MMMs, MMPs.
  • Strong passion for answering complex business questions using structured problem solving and rigorous data analysis.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, cross-functionally, and influence peers with compelling data.
  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative analyses in a clear, precise, and actionable manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with one or more core retail functions such as merchandising, planning, marketing, supply chain, or store experience.
  • Ability to effectively share technical information, communicate technical issues and solutions to all levels of business.
  • Able to juggle multiple projects - can identify primary and secondary objectives, prioritize time and communicate timeline to team members.
  • Ability and desire to take product/project ownership.
  • Ability to think creatively, strategically and technically.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and Company needs.
  • Knowledge of MS Office computer programs are required.
