Basic Function and Responsibility:
The Coordinator of First Year Experience (FYE) and Academic Interventions will be responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing comprehensive programs and services that support the successful transition and integration of first-year students into the college community. Additionally, the coordinator will play a vital role in enhancing student engagement and academic success of students on academic status and students returning to Oakton after serving an academic sanction. This position will be crucial in enhancing student success, advancing racial equity, and strengthening students' Oakton experiences by developing and implementing comprehensive programs, interventions, and support services for these specific student populations.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities: - Design, manage, and execute a holistic first-year experience program that facilitates new students' adjustment to college life; addresses the academic, social, and personal needs of first-year students; and supports connections to on-campus resources and support services.
- Partner with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs departments and faculty to cultivate a welcoming and engaging environment for first-year students through welcome week activities and transition programs.
- In partnership with the Director, Student Success and Academic Interventions, ensure alignment of first-year experience and academic intervention programs and initiatives with the College Studies curriculum and learning outcomes.
- Coordinate, assess, and continuously improve the early alert and intervention programs to ensure effective communication between faculty, student services, and students and facilitate timely interventions (e.g., tutoring, counseling, academic coaching, etc.) for students requiring academic support.
- Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of FYE programs, services, and academic interventions. Utilize assessment results to inform program improvements and generate reports and presentations on the progress and effectiveness of first-year experience and academic intervention programs.
- In partnership with faculty and academic affairs leadership, assess faculty utilization with early alert and intervention programs and design and facilitate training and professional development opportunities.
- Create, implement, and evaluate re-entry and retention programs for students returning after an academic suspension or dismissal, offering academic skills refreshers, resources for adapting to changes, and support for transitioning back to college.
- Collaborate with the College's equity coordinators (e.g., AANAPISI, ANDALE, and Black Student Success) and specialized programs (i.e., Emory Williams Academy for Black Men) to develop tailored and culturally relevant first-year engagement programming and support for minoritized students.
- Evaluate and enhance first-year initiatives and curriculum to align with the College's current strategic goals for student success, racial equity, and workforce readiness.
- Collaborate with and attend Learning Center team and professional development meetings to ensure seamless referrals, track student progress, and evaluate the effectiveness of academic support interventions.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications: - Master's degree in higher education, college student personnel, or a related field.
- Three years of experience in new student orientation, first-year experience programs and initiatives, student life, academic advising, or student affairs.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing student success initiatives, particularly for first-year and at-risk students.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills with an ability to successfully work in a cross-cultural environment and with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills. Incumbents must be able to give and receive advice and opinions and interact with individuals in situations requiring sensitivity and tact.
- Ability to use emotional intelligence (EI) to respond appropriately to challenging situations involving students and community members.
- Aptitude for learning and training others using different technology systems.
Preferred Qualifications:- Functional experience with an integrated student information system and/or customer relations management (CRM) software.
- Proficient in creating, maintaining, using and manipulating spreadsheets and extracts downloaded into spreadsheets from systems (Banner, Zogotech, databases), and managing administrative technical functions. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft products. Strong written and computer skills are essential for preparing required reports, analysis, and documentation of outcomes.
- Technology competence, including Google Suite, MS Office suite, database programs, and additional college-supported technology platforms used for employee training, troubleshooting, and adapting policies and procedures.
Working Conditions:
General office conditions. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions. Ability to travel between campuses monthly and work an evening shift one day per week, consistent with department and/or student needs.

SALARY: $60,189
Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have hybrid schedule options available after 30 working days.
