Duties

You will serve as a General Supply Specialist and be responsible for performing a variety of supply duties related to functions such as logistics, inventory management, and distribution.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
  • Performing recurring assignments, operations, and procedures involving property and/or equipment management, coordination, and control for a local inventory management program.
  • Maintaining inventory for items form readily available sources of supply, or items that reflect relatively stable patters of demand.
  • Assisting in the receipt of supplies from vendor sources, filling supply orders from stock, and expediting emergency requests for supply.
  • Developing and installing procedures and techniques for the storage of items and supplies.
  • Assisting in the evaluation and assessment of the logistics program and identifying recurring issues that need to be resolved through continuous planning, logistics development, and implementation of the support capabilities.

Typical duties at the GS-07 level are the same as the GS-09 level, except with a higher level of supervision. Supervision becomes less progressively detailed as incumbent gains more experience.

  • Qualifications

    To qualify at the GS-07 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

    Specialized experience must include the following:
    • Assisting with compiling, analyzing, and summarizing information relating to supply requirements.
    • Providing support in buying, storing, and transferring supplies.

    NOTE: Education can be substituted for experience at this grade level as follows:
    1 full year of graduate level education, in which the education demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. (OR) Superior Academic Achievement AND Completion of a Bachelor's Degree, in which the education demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

    Superior Academic Achievement is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership.
  • Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses.
  • Grade-point average (G.P.A.) -- Applicants must have a grade-point average of:
    • 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or
    • 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2years of the curriculum.
  • Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society
  • To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, applicants must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
    • Compiling, analyzing, and summarizing information relating to supply requirements.
    • Developing plans for resolving questions.
    • Defining stock levels and frequency of re-ordering.
    • Providing support in buying, storing, and transferring supplies.

    NOTE: Education can be substituted for experience at this grade level as follows:

    Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related;

    or equivalent combinations of experience and education.

    National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

    Education

    This position does not have a positive education requirement. If you are including education on your resume, report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. See Required Documents section for detail.

    College Transcript: If you are qualifying based on education, submit a copy of your college transcript that lists college courses detailing each course by the number and department (i.e., bio 101, math 210, etc.), course title, number of credit hours and grade earned. You must submit evidence that any education completed in a foreign institution is equivalent to U.S. education standards with your resume. You may submit an unofficial copy of the transcript at the initial phase of the application process. If course content cannot be easily identified from the title of the course as listed on your transcript, you must submit an official course description from the college/university that reflects the content at the time the course was taken.

    Transcripts --If this position requires specific educational course work to qualify, or you are qualifying based in whole or part on education, you are required to provide all unofficial transcripts (undergraduate, graduate, etc.) by the closing date of this announcement or you will be disqualified from further consideration.
