This position is responsible for focusing on the development and execution of employee communication activities across the organization. This role is critical in supporting engagement and retention of over 50,000 Whataburger Family Members. This position will support and lead people communications and content initiatives while partnering with a passionate team to deliver engaging employee experiences.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, execute and evaluate strategic, innovative and engaging people communication deliverables across multiple channels - including email, internal company portal, video, presentations and employee surprise and delight opportunities.
  • Draft, revise and distribute communication deliverables for various audiences, including restaurant, corporate and franchise teams.
  • Help create an inclusive and positive culture through meaningful content used to recognize employees, drive awareness for key people initiatives, engagement surveys and other ongoing and ad hoc opportunities for all voices to be heard.
  • Track and analyze data and key metrics to make adjustments to strategy and programs to achieve desired company results.
  • Support adapting and adjusting content deliverables to ensure employee and business needs are being met (i.e. adjusting communication deliverables that align with shifting content consumption behaviors, deskless employees, work from home policies, etc.)
  • Support content and communications for company events including key business meetings, WhataGames (think of this like the Olympics for Whataburger), holiday events, philanthropic events and more.
  • Develop and recommend new programs, enhancements, strategies, and thought leadership to continuously develop and improve the employee experience and engagement opportunities.
  • Create and manage relationships with third-party vendors (email, videographers, photographers, etc.).
  • Partner and work closely with various members across the business to drive employee engagement and generate awareness for critical projects. This includes Talent Acquisition, HR Business Partners, Learning and Development, Compensation/Benefits, HRIS, IT, Restaurant Services, Operations and Marketing.
  • Manage multiple people email inboxes and field employee questions from Operations and the Home Office.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.


Education :
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and work experience required


Experience:
  • Documented experience building and executing people communication strategies that result in cultivating a high-performing, fun culture.
  • Experience developing relevant communications for a diverse workforce (experience in delivering communications to deskless employees is a plus).
  • Preferred experience with content management systems and email marketing platforms.
  • Preferred experience with design applications/platforms and Microsoft suite of products (i.e. Adobe, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
  • 3+ years' experience developing communications and presentations for HR and employee initiatives


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Visio (as applicable)
  • Ability to quickly synthesize business concepts into concise, high-quality communications
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize stories that align with strategic goals and effectively share and tie the key elements of such stories to the strategic goals.
  • Ability to communicate well with the general public and experience in establishing and maintaining an effective working relationship with management, vendors, and co-workers
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to proactively identify and execute optimization efforts
  • Ability to communicate, influence and negotiate decisions while motivating assigned staff
  • Working knowledge of employment laws relating to employee relations and personnel administration
  • Outstanding written, verbal and social communications skills (providing samples of past work is a plus).
  • Thrives in a high-energy, fast-paced environment with the ability to remain flexible while managing multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a thought leader with an emphasis on collaboration and proactivity.

Working Conditions/Travel Requirements:
  • Expected to work the necessary time to satisfactorily fulfill job responsibilities
  • Must be able to report to work timely and as required by operational/business needs
  • Must be able to work a full-time schedule and work outside of normal business hours when necessary
  • Some travel, both locally and long distances, (including air travel), to worksites, meeting sites, and other locations may be necessary.
