Possess the ability to operate heavy equipment as assigned. To be available to perform “on call” status for snow events and complete tasks in adverse weather conditions. This job description is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all job functions performed. The following are essential duties for this position, performed with or without reasonable accommodation: Essential (primary) Operates various equipment, including, but not limited to Gradall, paver, bulldozer, payloader, road grader, asphalt distributor, backhoe, tractor, leafer, sweeper, bobcat, dump truck and rollers, in effecting general maintenance, repair, and safety of City roads and right-of-ways. Checks and maintains light equipment to ensure proper fluid levels and mechanical functions. Prepares and submits work order for necessary repairs, as needed. Patches and seals streets, scrapes grades, maintains street berm and shoulders, and digs ditches with heavy equipment, as assigned. Loads, hauls and dumps dirt, asphalt, crushed stone, sand, and salt from trucks. Removes snow, debris and brush from assigned City areas, using appropriate equipment. Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment. Non-Essential (secondary) Pours and finishes concrete for repair and reconstruction of sidewalks, curbs, inlets, and gutters. Operates tractor, small sweeper and maintain City streets and right-of-ways as assigned. Shovels snow from City sidewalks, streets, parking lots/garages and alleys. Lutes and shovels asphalt, gravel, and dirt as required. Trims and clears trees, leaves and brush from City streets and right-of-ways using chain saws, chippers, stump grinder and leafers. Performs related duties as assigned.High school education or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Knowledge of and ability to properly operate trucks and heavy/light equipment used by the department. Knowledge of standard practices and procedures involved in street maintenance and repair. Knowledge of all applicable safety precautions, and ability to apply such knowledge to daily operations. Knowledge of the mechanics of light equipment and ability to perform preventative maintenance and minor repair. Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle. Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL-B with air brakes) within probationary period. Ability to work overtime, as needed. Difficulty of Work Moderate physical effort is exerted by incumbent in the set up and operation of equipment, including frequent bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and movement of extremities necessary to handle equipment controls. Must be able to lift up to 75lbs. Moderate physical effort is frequently required for regular periods of time. Performs majority of duties out of doors, in varying weather conditions, and is periodically exposed to excessive noise, dirt, dust, and vehicle and equipment fumes. Safety precautions must be used at all times to avoid injury to self and others. Personal Work Relationships Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including co-workers, City and other government officials, community groups, and the general public. |
