The Director of the Carlisle Operating System is the primary resource for developing and leading the implementation of the Carlisle Operating System throughout all the Carlisle Business Units. This position will partner with corporate, administrative, and operations leadership to ensure that an effective enterprise-wide program is implemented and sustained. The COS leadership will deliver practical, hands-on training and mentoring to associates on Lean methodology and tools to eliminate waste in our businesses. The Director will lead, measure, and report progress on an ongoing basis and assure standardization of COS and Continuous Improvement methodologies throughout the corporation.

Key Functions and Responsibilities
  • Ensures the continued development of COS and ongoing evaluation of the COS implementation at the Business Unit level through annual Assessment Process.
  • Participates and manages the Corporation's Policy Deployment Process and is responsible for coordinating the Business Unit's Deployment Process to insure alignment with the overall objectives of the Corporation. Will develop a standardized set of select continuous improvement metrics to help manage and supervise performance.
  • Ensures that the COS Office is structured and has the talent, resources, and organizational capability for lean transformation; gives feedback to leadership and HR on talent needs needed to achieve higher and higher levels of continuous improvement.
  • Partner with the business Presidents, VP's, GM's, and HR leaders for the selection, hiring, staffing, and retention of talent within the company's COS organization.
  • Coordinates with the Division COS Leaders with an emphasis on championing Carlisle's goals.
  • Acts as the primary contact for the LeanSigma® relationship with Lean and Six Sigma consultants and communicates the status of all COS efforts to the Executive Staff as well as provides documentation of results and benefits achieved.
  • Provides assessment on overall stability, performance, and manufacturing process basics of potential alliances, acquisitions, and/or mergers. Evaluates the Lean status/potential of the acquisition and contributes to the planning and implementation of a Lean deployment plan before and during integration.
  • Promote COS and inquire about site implementation plans, current Framework phase, and phase exit targets. Encourage/support usage of COS methodology for daily execution, problem solving, and improvement to attain work team, value stream, site, and performance objectives.
  • Review Site Steering Committee meeting minutes, Coaching Cards, usage of the Leadership Observation Form, templates from weekly safety gemba walks, and the most recent monthly safety conditions self-assessment.
  • Partner with others to guide multiple site steering teams in effectively managing change and the COS implementation process.
  • Coach, train, and mentor site leadership to create, improve, and sustain a robust operating system to deliver exceptional business results.
  • Assess organizational gaps and determine appropriate intervention activities. Guide site leadership teams in implementing effective strategies to improve site performance.
  • Contribute improvements to training materials, guidebooks, and other deployment/implementation documentation and processes.
  • Drive and participate in standard methodology and knowledge sharing activities at Site, Division, and Corporate levels and support gemba and data driven decision making.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Business, or other related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading plant operations or general management in a lean organization.
  • Possess LeanSigma® and/or Six Sigma Black Belt Certification.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading a Lean transformation in a multi-site business of suitable scale with a proven record of achieving results.
  • Previous experience designing, deploying and managing an entrepreneurial program, including leading policy deployment across a large, matrixed organization.
  • Ability to guide and teach others in the Continuous Improvement toolset including: Value Stream Mapping, Just-In-Time, Demand Flow, Single Piece Flow, 5S, Visual Management, Total Productive Maintenance, Kaizen, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Six Sigma basics, and Statistical Problem Solving.
  • Ability to communicate and work across the business units within Carlisle
  • Travel up to 80% of the time.
  • Have strong financial judgement and possess a good understanding of financial measurements typically used to measure the success of Lean initiatives.
