Duties
This position will allow you to use your expertise in acquisition, storage, and disposal of automotive/maintenance tools, equipment, parts, and supplies.
This position starts at an hourly rate of $21.13 (WG-06, Step 1) to $24.66 (WG-06, Step 5).
As a Tools and Parts Attendant with Customs and Border Protection, you will become a valuable member of a team of professionals supporting homeland security functions. Typical work assignments include:- Ensuring the timely acquisition, storage, and disposal of automotive and maintenance tools, equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Purchasing automotive parts, supplies, tools, equipment, vehicle repairs and services and any other items necessary to maintain fleet operations.
- Retaining all purchase data and maintaining the information in a database.
- Receiving, unloading, and storing items; issuing parts to automotive mechanics; and conducting quarterly and annual inventories of all capitalized equipment.

Qualifications

To minimally qualify for the WG-06 grade level you must meet the Screen Out Elements:- Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.
To meet the screen out element(s), you should have experience performing the following duties:- Recommending substitutes and interchangeable items for parts and supplies.
- Researching parts/tools/supplies using suitable vendors and determining the most economical sources for purchasing.
- Maintaining property inventory; ensuring all property is accounted for at all times.
- Providing detailed inventory records data of automotive and maintenance tools, equipment, parts and supplies to the supervisor for quarterly and annual budget forecasts.

Work Conditions: Work is generally done in areas that are well light, heated, and ventilated. Incumbent may occasionally work inside areas that are drafty. The work is sometimes dirty, dusty, and greasy. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises.
Physical Effort: Performing work on hard services and in work areas that require you to stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lift and carry tools, parts, supplies, and equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds. Handling items that weigh up to 100 pounds. Hand trucks, dollies, and other workers may be available for assistance with heavier items.
