Cardiac Sonographer/Echo Tech - NWOCC - Full Time Days

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures and keeping with accreditation standards, is responsible for performing a variety of non-invasive cardiac diagnostic tests and procedures in order to assist physicians in determining functioning of the patient's cardiovascular system.  Cross trains in EKG and Cardiology Stress Lab as needed.

1. Uses independent judgment, knowledge, and skills to obtain accurate cardiovascular assessments and to complete studies (transthoracic echocardiogram, transesophageal echocardiogram, stress echocardiogram and EKGs) as ordered by physician, according to protocol.  

2.  Communicates critical values to interpreting physician, ordering physician and RN (for inpatients), and logs that communication.
3.  Informs and prepares patients for tests and procedures and obtains appropriate consents.

4.  Demonstrates competency in ultrasound testing of adult, geriatric, and pediatric patients.  

5.  May assist in orientation and training of new personnel.
6.  Operates duplex ultrasound and diagnostic equipment according to designated protocols and procedures to obtain and record optimal images, measurements and Doppler signals in order to accurately assess cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, blood flow, disease process, and functions of cardiovascular system.
7.  Effectively uses CPACS electronic archive system for all images and reports, and effectively uses downtime process in the event the EMR or CPACS is down.
8.  Assures all procedures are ordered correctly.
9.  Maintains accurate patient logs of procedures performed in accordance with ICAEL accreditation standards, interpretations rendered in timely fashion and reports distributed correctly.
10.  Effectively participates in quality/performance improvement activities as appropriate within job functions and in accordance with accreditation standards.
11.  Maintains equipment in clean and proper working condition in accordance with policy and replenishes machine supplies as necessary.
12.  Reports to Biomed department and supervisor any service malfunction immediately upon discovery.
13.  Orders supplies as necessary in a timely fashion.

Education, Skills, and Experience Required:

 - Associate Degree in Cardiovascular Sonography
- TTE, TEE, Stress Echo, EKG arrhythmia recognition.
- 1 year, which may include clinical externship
- Certification/Registry and License

- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS or CCI) � Adult, Pediatric, abdominal ultrasound
- BLS
- ACLS
