The City is currently in the process of implementing a new salary structure. Depending on the progress of this implementation, the salary offered to the selected candidate may be higher than the amount currently posted. However, the candidate will not be offered a salary lower than the posted amount for this position.

Essential (primary)

Operates various equipment, including dump truck, street saw, shovels, jack hammer, pipe saw, and related attachments in effecting the general maintenance and repair of water and sewer lines.

Hauls, dumps, and shovels crushed stone, sand, dirt, and asphalt from trucks using appropriate equipment.

Digs ditches, repairs and/or replaces pipes, refills ditches, patches roads, sidewalks, and/or soil, and cleans work site as needed.

Regularly checks department vehicles and equipment to ensure proper fluid levels and mechanical functioning.

Ensure appropriate equipment and machinery is available at the work site.

Performs duties of Water Lineman as needed.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Graduation from an accredited high school; or possession of equivalent (GED) issued by an accredited high school; or combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.

Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL-B with air brakes) within probationary period. Current CDL-B or CDL-A holders preferred.
Knowledge of and skill in the operation of department vehicles and related equipment.

One year of experience working with water, sewer, and/or storm water, preferred.

Basic knowledge of the mechanics of light and heavy equipment and ability to perform minor maintenance and repairs.

Knowledge of safety precautions for working in or around department vehicles and equipment, including ability to operate equipment in confined areas.

Ability to work overtime as instructed.
Difficulty of Work

Incumbent performs duties which require frequent bending, lifting, pushing and/or pulling of equipment and tools. Incumbent is required to remain standing and working for long periods of time, and is exposed to jolting, bumping, and vibrations when operating equipment.

Incumbent performs majority of duties out of doors, in varying weather conditions, and is periodically exposed to excessive noise, dirt, dust, and vehicle and equipment fumes. Safety precautions must be used at all times to avoid injury to self and others.
