Basic Function and Responsibility:

Under general supervision, coordinate the functions of the Coordinator for the Center for Research, Innovation, and Creative Engagement on the Des Plaines campus. Assist students and faculty utilizing the functions of the Center and all the services/programs provided by and related to the Center and campus

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the Center for Research, Innovation, and Creative Engagement (RICE Center), including staffing, scheduling hours, monitoring equipment and materials, etc. Responsible for the selection, training, supervision of student employees and potentially staff.
  • Assist RICE Center faculty coordinator to implement the strategic planning of RICE Center's goals, aligning with institutional strategies to strengthen student experiences, enhance workforce readiness, and advance racial equity.
  • Create an inclusive environment that supports the success of underrepresented students and ensures all Center activities promote equity and address disparities in student achievement.
  • Collaborate with language lab staff on Rice programming.
  • Assist RICE Center faculty coordinator to develop and implement assessment tools for data collection to measure the impact of RICE Center programs on student success.
  • Assist RICE Center faculty coordinator in developing and executing marketing strategies by creating promotional materials, engaging the college community, and using channels like email, newsletters, and other tools to raise awareness and boost participation.
  • Prepare regular reports on the Center's activities, use data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain database of research mentors, projects and students
  • Manage implementation of Center budget, assist in seeking out additional funding opportunities, and, and ensure efficient use of resources. Process reimbursements for speakers, mentors and students
  • Manage arrangements for speakers, conferences or other RICE Center events/activities
  • Participate in and remain current on anti-racism and other professional development training.
  • Represent RICE Center regionally and nationally and serve on campus committees as assigned and requested.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Working Conditions:
  • A bachelor's degree in education, sociology, public administration, or a related field within social science.
  • 3-5 years of experience in program coordination/management, ideally in an academic or research setting.
  • Strong knowledge of racial equity and inclusion, with a record of addressing disparities in student success.
  • Experience managing student-Centered programs, particularly those focused on marginalized groups.
  • Skills in budget management, fundraising, grant writing, and event coordination.
  • Proficiency in data collection, assessment, and continuous program improvement.
  • Organizational, project management, and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in marketing and outreach.
  • Familiarity with technology for communication, data management, LMS, and office software.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring students or staff.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to professional development, including anti-racism training.
  • Availability for evenings, weekends, and travel between campuses and to off campus events as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:

A Master's degree, especially in a field aligned with program management, student success, or diversity and equity initiatives.
Familiarity with academic research processes, including data analysis tools (e.g., NVivo, SPSS, STATA, Atlas.ti, etc.).

Working Conditions:
Light lifting of up to 10 lbs. and light carrying up to 10 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus and to visit off-Campus entities. Work is performed in a general office environment and is sedentary in nature. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.

Supervision Received:
  • Functional supervision is received from the RICE Center faculty coordinator.
  • Administrative supervision is received from the Dean of Liberal Arts.
Supervision Exercised:
  • Functional supervision may be exercised over staff and student employees.
HOURS: Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 5:45 pm

SALARY: The hourly salary of this position is $27.76 which equates to $55,942 annualized based on Oakton's summer hours schedule.

All employees must maintain their primary residence in Illinois, Indiana, or a reciprocal state with Illinois. Reciprocal states include Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Illinois has tax agreements with these reciprocal states. Employees may have their primary residence in Indiana since Indiana is adjacent to Illinois.
