Job Title: Quality Lab Supervisor Location: Franklin Park, IL Pay Range: $70,000 - $80,000 per year

Position Summary The Quality Lab Supervisor is responsible for supervising the daily operations of the Quality Lab, including testing and inspection of raw materials and finished goods. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product quality, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement through data analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective actions. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with a solid understanding of quality systems, testing protocols, and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities - Supervise and mentor lab technicians, providing ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
- Oversee lab testing procedures for finished goods and raw materials to ensure compliance with product specifications.
- Conduct root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions for quality-related issues.
- Lead investigations into long-term trends in product quality through data analysis.
- Manage the scheduling and workload distribution for lab staff to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
- Perform and prepare for internal and external quality audits; address audit findings and action items.
- Develop, review, and maintain quality documentation, including deviations and CAPAs.
- Ensure lab equipment is properly calibrated and maintained according to specifications.
- Lead training for new team members and provide cross-training as necessary.
- Assist and fill in for lab technicians as needed to maintain workflow.
- Travel occasionally to attend quality assurance meetings, trainings, or audits.
Required Skills & Abilities - Strong leadership and team management skills within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of quality manuals, best practices, and the implications of shipping defective products.
- Advanced computer proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Email, SFIS, SAP).
- Familiarity with production schedules, inspection protocols, and quality data analysis.
- Ability to draft, revise, and audit quality-related policies and procedures.
- Understanding of lab safety protocols and operational guidelines for all testing equipment.
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain.
Education & Experience - High school diploma or GED required; additional technical or quality-related education preferred.
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or quality assurance environment.
- Ability to develop and apply full-performance knowledge of quality lab operations, acquired through education and/or relevant work experience.
Equipment & Tools Used - Measurement tools: calipers, tape measures, scales, thermal conductivity meters, thickness gauges, temperature probes.
- Office equipment: computer, phone, and kiosks.
- Software and systems: SAP, SFIS, Microsoft Office Suite.
Work Environment & Schedule - Work is performed within an insulation manufacturing facility with exposure to:
- Varying indoor and outdoor temperatures
- Dust, chemicals, and mechanical parts
- Industrial machinery noise and potential pinch points
- Standard schedule is 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, with overtime and weekend shifts as required.
- This is a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment with multiple production shifts.
