Supervises and assists with training Telecommunicators. Assists in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating functions in the day to day operation of the Central Emergency Dispatch Center(CEDC). This job description is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all job functions performed. The following are essential duties for this position, performed with or without reasonable accommodation: Primary Creates work schedules. Coaches new hires and participates in training them. Troubleshoots issues as they arise and advises Telecommunicators, when needed. Serves as a Telecommunicator, when needed. Participates in developing, evaluating, and improving procedures. If designated as Training Supervisor, develops and manages a training program to develop the technical competencies of Telecommunicators and coordinates the training of all new staff. If designated as Training Supervisor, maintains certifications and training records for all Telecommunicators. Ensures all Telecommunicators comply with policies and procedures. Evaluates and addresses performance. Pulls recordings, when necessary. Takes all reasonable steps to maintain a safe work environment. Secondary Performs related duties as assigned. Periodically attends workshops outside the city. High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of college with coursework in communication, planning, supervision and management, and/or an emergency service field is preferred. Must obtain the NENA Center Training Officer (CTO) certification within one year of starting in the position. Two years of related experience in the CEDC, preferred. Prior supervisory experience, preferred. Knowledge of City and County dispatching procedures and protocol. Ability to read maps, use emergency code terminology, and clearly and calmly respond during stressful situations. Ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with others during varied emergency situations or otherwise stressful situations. Ability to maintain required certifications: IDACS/NCIC, EMD, EPD, EFD, CPR. Knowledge of communications operations involving dispatching for all emergency services. DIFFICULTY OF WORK Assists in performing duties in a professional office environment and is frequently exposed to stressful situations associated with requests for emergency assistance . Must be able to use multiple computer and communication systems under emergency conditions. Occasionally must continue on duty during shift with little break time. Overtime required occasionally. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS Works closely with the Telecommunications Manager and Assistant Manager. Must be a team player and help set the standard by example for the CEDC. Assists in maintaining frequent contact with Telecommunicators. Public Safety agencies and members of the public for a variety of purposes including the coordination of training personnel as well as non-routine contact with callers requesting emergency assistance . |
