Under general supervision, the Systems Engineer I is expected to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of Client focused systems. The SE I provides operational support for authentication, logging, monitoring and alerting to include lifecycle management of end-user devices and virtualization platforms, such as Citrix. This person is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all operating systems and infrastructure systems' performance to identify, resolve and communicate issues. The SE I packages applications and make routine updates to packages when needed.
The Systems Engineer I reports to the Systems Engineering Manager (Client Engineering).
Evening and/or weekend work may occasionally be required.
This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining and supporting Citrix environments (Virtual Apps and Desktops) including user session troubleshooting and capacity monitoring.
- Perform basic management tasks within Citrix Studio and Director, including monitoring sessions and publishing applications or desktops.
- Coordinate with senior Citrix engineers to implement updates, patches, and configuration changes in the Citrix infrastructure.
- Participate in the packaging and deployment of applications in a Citrix environment.
- Document and escalate recurring Citrix system issues and performance bottlenecks for senior review.
- Responsible for packaging applications and routine troubleshooting
- Develop automation to reduce administrative cost for routine or bulk tasks
- Deploy security remediation steps to protect against vulnerabilities identified by the Information Security team through configuration and patching.
- Work with application owners to schedule maintenance windows where applicable
- On a rotating basis, provide 24/7 on-call support for mission critical infrastructure systems.
- Respond to incidents and service outages to restore service interruptions in a timely manner.
- Control and limit access in compliance with security policies and best practices to maintain system integrity.
- Create and maintain current and accurate technical documentation and diagrams.
- Follow and offer improvements for departmental processes such as change management, incident management, and problem management.
- Collaborate and participate in the transformation of legacy workflows.
- Identify and train in technical area(s) to develop expertise.
- Perform or automate planned maintenance after-hours / weekends as required.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related field desired; or equivalent work experience.
- Two plus years of system administrator experience in an enterprise with increasing responsibilities.
- Two plus years of administering Microsoft Active Directory and other associated services, such as DNS, DHCP, RDS and Print in an enterprise.
- Advanced skills with server operating systems, such as Microsoft Server 2008 R2 or 2012 R2; CentOS, OpenSUSE, RHEL, or SLES.
- Working technical knowledge of three or more current software protocols and Internet standards, including DHCP, DNS, LDAP, NTP, SMTP, SNMP, and SSH.
- Working knowledge of various RAID configurations and respective trade-offs.
- Experience with a scripting language, such as Python, Ruby or PowerShell.
- Reliable contributor both individually and as a member of the team.
- Strong presentation, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Competent use of desktop applications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years of system administrator or engineer experience in an enterprise with increasing responsibilities.
- 3+ years of experience supporting server/client operating systems.
- 1+ years of experience supporting Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops or similar remote desktop/application delivery solutions.
- 1+ years of experience building and supporting devices and packaging.
- Basic knowledge of Citrix architecture components such as Delivery Controllers, StoreFront, and Citrix Gateway.
- Familiarity with Citrix workspace environment management and/or Citrix policies.
- Exposure to integrating Citrix environments with Active Directory and M365 services (e.g., SSO, FSLogix).
- Advanced skills administering Microsoft Active Directory & Microsoft 365.
- Up-to-date knowledge of network protocols, internet standards and client-server communication.
- Foundational understanding of enterprise level virtualization standards, preferably VMware.
- Broad understanding of interdependencies and strong ability to troubleshoot events (such as access rights or performance) across dissimilar platforms.
- Experience with Liquidware ProfileUnity and Flexapp.
- Working knowledge of Citrix Cloud management and hybrid deployments.
- Basic understanding of Netscaler (Citrix ADC) for application delivery and remote access.
- Familiarity with Citrix monitoring tools such as Director or third-party solutions (e.g., ControlUp).
- Working knowledge of Enterprise Browsers (Island.io).
- Working knowledge of Jira.
- Strong understanding of IT automation.
The annual base salary range for this position is from $86,986 to $130,458, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
