Job Description

As a valued colleague on our team, you will contribute to developing data infrastructure and pipelines to capture, integrate, organize, and centralize data while testing and ensuring the data is readily accessible and in a usable state, including quality assurance.

THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE

The Senior Ontology & Data Modeling Associate plays a critical role in developing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise ontologies that support Fannie Mae's Data Strategy. The ideal candidate will contribute to the growth of an evolving semantic program by clearly articulating and championing the value of semantic technologies and knowledge organization concepts across the enterprise.

This individual will collaborate closely with both business and technology teams to drive the integration of semantic technologies into Fannie Mae's data products.

The Senior Ontology & Data Modeling Associate role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and govern ontologies and optimize d data models in consultation with stakeholders in teams dedicated to improving data discoverability, search, and product development.
  • Contribute to data integration and mapping efforts to harmonize data with Fannie Mae's upper and domain ontologies and maintain information accuracy and currency.
  • Communicate and advocate the value of Fannie Mae's efforts in to leverage ontologies, semantics, and standardization to unify data across business domains .
  • Partner with Technology, Machine Learning, and other Fannie Mae teams to identify and prioritize ontology needs in support of the development and integration of semantics in Fannie Mae products and services.
  • Analyze and implement knowledge organization strategies using ontology languages and tools capable of machine learning, ontology management, and semantic enrichment.
  • Enable a structured, semantic framework for data that enables Generative AI models to understand context, generate more relevant outputs, and make better inferences.
  • Maintain awareness of competitor and industry developments related to ontology use, knowledge organization, data modeling, and machine learning . Understand and adhere to W3C standards related to ontologies, in particular RDF, RDFS, OWL, SKOS, and SHACL .
  • Develop standards, guidelines, and direction for the use of ontologies, data modeling, semantics, and data s tandardization in general.

THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in information science, computer science, engineering, library science, ontology, semantics, or computational linguistics
  • 3 years+ experience in a metadata field of work or a master's degree in information science , computer science, engineering, library science, ontology, semantics, or computational linguistics
  • 3 years+ experience or training in using W3C standards including linked and canonical data and ontologies ( JSON, XML, RDF, RDFS, OWL, and SKOS)
  • 3 years+ experience or training in ontology and linked data tools including but not limited to: ( MagicDraw, Protégé, Top Quadrant, Pool Party, Stardog, AnzoGraph, Neptune, or Data. World)
  • 3 years+ experience or training with SQL or SPAR QL


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in information science, computer science, engineering, library science, ontology, semantics, or computational linguistics
  • Understanding of the development of ontologies and the use of controlled vocabularies and thesauri in enhancing the discovery of management of enterprise data
  • Familiarity with graph databases and technologies
  • Familiarity with Python or R
  • Familiarity with JSON Schema, JSON-LD, OpenAPI/YAML, AVRO
  • Familiarity with Agile principles, processes, and methodologies
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services
  • Detail-oriented and an ability to problem-solve independently
  • Strong reading and writing skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present ideas clearly and with confidence.

The hiring range for this role is set forth below. Final salaries will generally vary within that range based on factors that include but are not limited to, skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and other relevant qualifications.
