Description Whether you are a student looking for summer employment, someone looking for a part-time job, or wanting to start a career on the ground level, we have assorted opportunities for you! The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation has maintenance positions to include custodial, general grounds maintenance, athletic field maintenance, landscaping, event technicians, and trades helpers. Locations for each position will vary within Prince George's County. These positions pay at a rate of $15.00/hour to $17.00/hour depending on qualifications and experience. Examples of Important Duties Custodial: The Northern Region Parks Division (NRPD) is looking for responsible individuals to assist our custodial teams in cleaning the community centers, recreation centers, and comfort stations interiors and exteriors. Duties include cleaning glass and stainless-steel surfaces, dusting, removing trash, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming. It also involves washing and sanitizing toilets, sinks, and showers, and restocking supplies. Will perform minor maintenance and repairs as needed. Reports any maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries promptly. Monitors the work area/facility with a conscientious effort to promote the efficient use of power, fuel, telecom, and water. Properly recycles Commission waste, including paper, plastic, glass, and other products. Performs other related duties as assigned. Previous custodial, grounds keeping, or maintenance experience a plus! Grounds Maintenance: NRPD is looking for an energetic person who enjoys being outside, interacting with people, and who has an outstanding work ethic with great attention to detail to assist the Division with activities such as trash removal, general park maintenance, playground maintenance, event set-ups, and light trades activities (I.e., painting and carpentry). Examples of important duties include operating power equipment (backpack blowers, weed eaters, power pruners), operating mowing equipment (large area mowers, zero turns, walk behind mowers), and operating in and around heavy equipment and trucks (skid steers, dingos, tractors, trash trucks) in a safe manner. Experience in any of the activities mentioned above is a plus, but on-the-job training can also be provided. The working hours are 5:45 am to 2:30 pm, Monday-Friday. Some shifts require weekend work. Trades Helper: NRPD seeks experienced individuals to assist the various trade shop staff with painting, carpentry, welding, plumbing, auto mechanics, and HVACR. Working hours are 5:45 am to 2:30 pm, Monday-Friday. Athletic Field Maintenance: NRPD seeks a part-time seasonal employee to assist with the athletic field maintenance work program. We are looking for an energetic person who enjoys being outside, interacting with people, and who has an outstanding work ethic with great attention to detail. Examples of important duties include dragging and lining diamond athletic fields, painting and lining rectangular athletic fields, and operating several types of equipment used in athletic field maintenance (reel and rotary mowers, backpack blowers, weed eaters, tractors, aerifiers, seeders, spreaders) in a safe manner. Experience in any of the activities mentioned above is a plus, but on-the-job training can also be provided. The working hours are 5:45 am to 2:30 pm, Monday-Friday. Some shifts require weekend work. Minimum Qualifications No experience or training is necessary except for specialized skills (for example typing) or licenses/certificates (for example, Red Cross Life Saving Certificate) that are related to the job. Supplemental Information These positions are Seasonal and do not include a benefits package. A complete background investigation will be conducted prior to hire. THE MARYLAND-NATIONAL CAPITAL PARK AND PLANNING COMMISSION 2025 BENEFIT SUMMARY FOR SEASONAL INTERMITTENT EMPLOYEES The following information is a summary of benefits extended to all Seasonal employees of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). This is for informational purposes only and is subject to change. Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees Health Insurance Plans You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period. If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office. Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
