The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation has Maintenance positions to include functions such as custodial, general grounds maintenance, athletic field maintenance, landscaping, event technicians, and trades helpers.

Pay range: $15.00/hour - $16.00/hour; salaries are based on experience.

Examples of Important Duties

Types of Park Maintenance Jobs Available:

Custodial: Northern, Central, and Southern areas are looking for responsible individuals to assist our custodial teams in cleaning the community centers, recreation centers, and comfort stations. Generally, the working hours are 4:00 am to 12:45 pm and can be one of three different shifts; Sunday-Thursday, Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday. Experience with custodial activities including restroom maintenance and wood, vinyl and carpet floor care are a plus.

Grounds Maintenance: All of our worksite locations seek self-starters working in a team environment to assist the ground maintenance crews with activities such as trash removal, mowing, athletic field maintenance, playground maintenance, event set-ups, and light trades activities (i.e., painting and carpentry). Generally, the working hours are 6:15 am to 3:00 pm, Monday-Friday. There are some shifts that require weekend work. Experiences in any of the activities mentioned above are a plus.

Trades Helper: Randall Farm and the Northern, Central, and Southern areas seek experienced individuals to assist the various trade shops staff with activities such as painting, carpentry, welding, plumbing, auto mechanics, and HVACR. Working hours are generally 6:15 am to 3:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

Landscaping/Greenhouse: Randall Farm Facility seeks energetic individuals to assist the landscaping crews with maintaining landscaping planting sites throughout the county and to assist the greenhouse staff with greenhouse operations. Working hours are generally 6:30 am to 3:15 pm, Monday-Friday. Experience in planting and cultivating shrubbery and annuals a plus.

Minimum Qualifications

No experience or training is necessary except for specialized skills (for example typing) or licenses/certificates (for example, Red Cross Life Saving Certificate) that are directly related to the job.

Supplemental Information

These positions are seasonal and do not include a benefits package.

Work may be indoors or outdoors.

A criminal background check will be completed prior to hire.

Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees

Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.

If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.

Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
