The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation has Maintenance positions to include custodial, general grounds maintenance, athletic field maintenance, landscaping, event technicians, and trades helpers. Locations for each position will vary.

These positions pay at a rate of $15.00/hour to $16.00/hour dependent on qualifications and experience.

Examples of Important Duties

Custodial: The Southern Region Parks Division (SRPD) is looking for responsible individuals to assist our custodial teams in cleaning the community centers, recreation centers, and comfort stations for the interior and exterior. Duties include cleaning glass and stainless steel surfaces, dust, remove the trash, sweep, mop, and vacuum. It also involves washing and sanitizing toilets, sinks, and showers, and restock supplies. Will perform minor maintenance and repairs as needed. Report any maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries promptly. Monitor the work area/facility with a conscientious effort to promote the efficient use of power, fuel, telecom, and water. Properly recycle Commission waste, including paper, plastic, glass, and other products. Performs other related duties as assigned. Previous custodial, grounds keeping, or maintenance experience a plus!

Grounds Maintenance: All of our worksite locations seek self-starters working in a team environment to assist the ground maintenance crews with activities such as trash removal, mowing, athletic field maintenance, playground maintenance, event set-ups, and light trades activities (i.e., painting and carpentry). Generally, the working hours are 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Some shifts require weekend work. Experiences in any of the activities mentioned above are a plus.

Trades Helper: SRPD seeks experienced individuals to assist the various trade shop staff with painting, carpentry, welding, plumbing, auto mechanics, and HVACR. Working hours are 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

Turf Maintenance:
SRPD seeks a part-time seasonal employee to assist with turf and grounds maintenance. We are looking for an energetic person who enjoys being outside, interacting with people, and who has an outstanding work ethic with great attention to detail. The preferred applicant will have experience using various equipment for mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing, but on-the-job training can also be provided. Examples of important duties include operating power equipment (backpack blowers, weed eaters, push and riding mowers, etc.) safely.

Minimum Qualifications

No experience or training is necessary except for specialized skills (for example typing) or licenses/certificates (for example, Red Cross Life Saving Certificate) that are directly related to the job.

Supplemental Information

These positions are Seasonal and do not include a benefits package.

A complete background investigation will be conducted prior to hire.

Work may be indoors or outdoors.

Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees

Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.

If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.

Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
